Burberry London Spring Summer 2010

Further to my post about the opening of the new Burberry London and Burberry Brit boutiques in NYC, here's more looks from the upcoming Burberry London Spring Summer 2010 collection that should lure you to visit the new store very soon:-P

Sublime palette of olive drab browns/greens, navy blues and greys are accented with a dash of leafy green, summery whites and touches of lavender, making this collection a good transition from winter to the new spring summer season. Military influences abounds as evident in the many olive green coloured pieces and styling. The Burberry checks are given a new spin with the introduction of hearts pattern and leafy silhouettes for fresh appeal and applied onto bags and trenches. The traditional Burberry check pattern no longer stays in the past but is being moved with the times:-) I love progress in a brand's identity so they can always be relevant.

I also especially adore the women's shoes which has strappy designs and worn over socks, making a strong statement for a confident women. The men's collection showcases the Burberry checks on ties, scarves or even a document/laptop folio which is great for the working professional. I can see those pieces becoming a hot seller in the stores.

All in all, a refined collection yet again from Burberry, the brand who seldom disappoints in bringing us elegant, contemporary British styles that is not just about a 6 month trend duration. Start planning your summer looks now... Burberry London seems like a good place to start.

Below: Or the blue one with its 'armour' like metal plating...

Acne Jeans With Metal Plates Spring Summer 2010

Check out these cool skinny jeans from Swedish label, Acne Jeans! As their name suggests, the brand is synonymous with denim and has even collaborated with Lanvin for their denim line. So expectations are high now to see what Acne can come up with for their Spring Summer 2010 collection. Fortunately, they did not disappoint... :-P Cool metal plate accents are added to the upcoming denim offerings, reminiscent of Balenciaga's Sci-Fi aesthetics but yet not derivative. Fabulous! I wonder if I can squeeze into one... suddenly I am loving my 'skinny' legs.:-P I will go for the white one with the metal knee pads. The blue version might be too hard for guys to pull off... What do guys think?

The Material Boy #348

Below: I am in love with this design 'Couvertures et Tenues de Jour' which features illustrations of horses... the pale pink colour is charming without being too loud:-)

Below: This fuchsia coloured alternative can add a bold dash of colour to a single
coloured blazer!

Below: Another of my favourite...'Belles du Mexique' which shows twirling mexican dancers:-) It's a work of art!

Below: Comes in Hermès' signature orange colour too... will work great with dark
coloured blazers:-P

Hermès Silk Twill Pocket Squares

Since I am a huge fan of blazers, naturally I am also keen on finding a charming pocket square to accent the blazer with a dash of pattern and colour. So this weekend, I did my fair search of locating beautiful pocket squares from many stores in Orchard. From high end boutiques the likes of Dunhill, Zegna, Etro and more to the cheaper alternatives at Takashimaya and Isetan, I finally ended my search and came to a conclusion. The ultimate beauty in pocket squares lies in the 'sacred' retail sanctuary of Hermès!

Indeed, Hermès' reputation as a renowned scarf maker is not without its reasons. Their scarves have some of the most interesting designs and illustrated prints that puts many other brand's design to shame. I saw 2 beautiful 'Couvertures et Tenues de Jour' print (very charming horses print) pocket squares (from the women's range which is more interesting) used a store decor by stretch them over a lit background. What a ingenious idea to dress up the retail space and showcasing the product range since the scarves features literally works of art on them. Unfortunately, they were not for sale and were sold out in the stores (but still available on the US Hermès website together with another beautiful design of twirling Mexican dancers 'Belles du Mexique'... it's love at first sight!)

But now I know, the indisputable place to get the most desirable and unique pocket squares and scarves has to be Hermès. You pay more, but you are buying a piece of art. I think that itself is already priceless.

Burberry Opens Burberry Brit And Burberry London Stores In 444 Madison Ave, NY

Burberry is fast expanding its footprint in the US. All Burberry fans in NYC have much to rejoice as 2 new stores (for its diffusion lines) have been added to the Burberry empire namely Burberry Brit and Burberry London. Both proud free standing boutiques of 1500 sq metres size takes its rightful place on the north (Burberry London) and south side (Burberry Brit) of their recently opened Burberry America Headquarters.

Burberry Brit emphasizes on the youthful expression of dishevelled elegant casual of the Burberry guy and girl. The more relaxed collection centered around outerwear, the Burberry check and denim.
Burberry London however is all about the much elegant tailored expression of the sophisticated Burberry customer, with outerwear, the black and white Beat check and Burberry's key competency in sartorial tailoring as its primary focus.

Here's a sneak peak at some of the best looks from the upcoming Burberry Brit's Spring Summer 2010 collection. I love the mix of sporty attitudes and refined casual chic. The signature Burberry checks have also been given new spontaneity with a new Nova Paint Heart pattern that is sure to win the hearts of girls all over! And the success of the portrait print men's tee from FW2009 collection sees a new 'twin brother' for the upcoming collection. I also love the military bags that is shown on the lookbook (is that Burberry Prorsum or Brit?). Tough chic:-P

(Will post more pics of the Burberry London SS2010 collection on a seperate post:-P)

Below: Burberry Brit Spring Summer 2010... amazing check shirt on the guy and those heels are gorgeous for the ladies! The youthful vibe of the collection makes it a very wearable collection for younger Burberry fans or for those casual sundays...

Below: Evil twin of Givenchy's SS2010 Gladiator Sandals...?

Below: I like the mid calf height and lace up binding...

Below: Givenchy's SS2010 Gladiator Sandals... which one is better? I am sure the price is also much 'better priced' than B Store's...

B Store Gladiator Lace-up Sandals

For those of you who cannot wait for Givenchy's Spring Summer 2010 gladiator sandals...or find them too loud (especially the gold version) for your taste, then this B Store Gladiator Lace-up Sandals could be the perfect alternative.

Sharing similarity in design with a mid calf height, but instead of buckles, this B Store version comes with a lace up binding. A cross between boots and sandals, in tan leather and grey suede. Pretty cool I must say. And costing only Eur 200 which I am sure is much much lower than Givenchy's.

So who wants these?!?!? On a second thought, are Gladiator sandals a thing of the past already? I know it irks me to see women wearing this shoe style. It's so overdone and overkill. But for men, can it still be relevant? One saving grace for B Store's version is it is a hybrid from boots, so perhaps you can argue it is a boot style sandals. 2 ways to argument a case....:-P just as long as you like them:-P what the heck!

My MANy Bags Trendspotting #68

Acid Wash Jeans: Relevant Or A Thing Of The Past?

I was flipping thru my Sartorialist Book last evening and it was a real inspiration journey admiring the many portraits of style 'mavens' featured inside. One of the looks that capture my attention was this slim guy in his acid wash jeans (not blue but brown!) with his slouchy canvas bag and gladiator style sandals. I love the acid wash jeans. Balmain's last Spring Summer 2009 women's collection saw the revival of these 80's 'trashy' jeans style, but will it be relevant now? Perhaps it is the unique colour of his acid wash jeans (brown and beige looks great:-P), that to me transcend time and trends. So if I can spot a pair like these, I would want to grab it!

What do you guys think? Acid wash jeans... relevant or leave it in the past?

My Shopping Conquests #95

Below: 'Sail' away with my new Topman Skinny Fit Contrast Trim Navy Blazer, off with winter, in comes the cruise looks!

Below: Topman blazers are great for a streamlined fit...perfect for slim guys.
I am wearing it with my Zara Portrait Print V-neck Tee + Croc Embossed Leather Belt, Flippa K Skinny Light Grey Jeans, YSL Y-mail Dog Tag...

Below: What caught my eye was the contrast trimmings on the narrow lapels and the pocket flaps... interesting touch to the otherwise plain blazer:-P

Below: Another cool piece I got... a slim fit Contrast Checks Trim White Shirt. Very cute with the checks pattern trim along the placket, collar and cuffs.

Below: Fit is great for slim guys!

Below: When worn together, I feel I owe myself a luxury cruise liner trip to St. Tropez... any sponsors around??!?

Topman Skinny Fit Contrast Trim Navy Blazer + White Shirt

Topman is for skinny folks like me! Topman is the heaven of fast fashion for guys! Topman has great fitted blazers that will not burn a big hole in your pocket! Topman gives you a birthday treat of 20% discount that is valid a whole month! Topman is love!

Although my birthday is long over...I took advantage of the month long validity of my 20% off birthday voucher and went shopping at Topman, Ion Orchard last weekend. I always like Topman's blazers cos' they fit me like a glove and no alterations need to be done. The cut is very contemporary with a shorter body and very skinny torso. Best part of all, it is so affordable, you can buy many and wear different styles anytime! Of course, do choose wisely to look like a million dollars without looking the price you paid:-)

My shopping expedition to Topman was a success. It left me with 2 great pieces that I would highly recommend. The Skinny Fit Contrast Trim Navy Blazer is one of the best looking blazer designs on the racks now. It has interesting contrast stripes that runs down the narrow lapels and along the flap of the pockets. Distinctive from other plain blazers without overbearing. I always believe good designs lies in the details. The blazer also look more expensive than it should be. The fit, as expected, is skinny and streamlined, perfect to look smart without appearing to hide 2 chickens under your jacket.

Besides the Navy Blazer, I also stumbled upon an 'unintentional' buy...I also get a beautiful Slim Fit Contrast Checks Trim White Shirt. The checks patterned trim adds a charming touch, dandy-ish combined with some Comme Des Garcons aesthetics:-P The checks trimmings also runs along the cuffs and collar which adds visual interest under a blazer.

When worn with the Navy Blazer, I feel I am ready to sail on a luxury cruise liner toward St. Tropez:-) Summery cruise look. A nice pocket square will be ideal for a more dashing touch:-)

Shopping mission completed and happy customer status achieved, I only spend SGD $225 for both cool pieces. What a deal! Afterall, what better feeling than looking smart without overspending much:-)
