Ad Campaigns And Catalogues #125

Below: D&G Fall Winter 2010 Mens Bags... Bag charms and quilted nylon anyone?

Below: The handles and design look a bit Prada-esque or even Coco Cocoon-ish? Yes? No?

Below: D&G Prefall 2010 Collection: 'Loewe Calle Bag'... is that chu?!?!?!

D&G PreFall & Fall 2010 Mens Bags

Sale season has barely begun for Spring Summer 2010 merchandise and now we are already getting a glimpse of what's on offer for Fall Winter 2010...

For next fall D&G sends puffy ski-wear clad hunks (pity they got all wrapped up under all the thick outerwear... no skin to be shown...sob sob) down their runways. As a result, this ski theme idea translates thru to the bag collection as well.

Lots of nylon and distressed leather. Waterproof, weatherproof and abuse proof. Sometimes, you just need a tough bag to bring along when you are up for some those snow cap adventures!

For prefall 2010, there are roomy duffels with a v front design (not bad for a nylon duffel), or totes in leather or nylon that is practical and sans the usual loud D&G branding. And 'Loewe Calle Bag'... Is dat chu? Wonder who in D&G approve this bag design for production? 'Copying' or greta minds think alike?

As for the Fall 2010 Bags, it's all in the charms... bag charms. Loving all those cute little trinkets that hangs on the quilted nylon totes. Prada-esque, Chanel Coco Cooonish... whatever you describe it, those charms are what sets these bags apart. The furry pom poms, 'mountain climbing' D-hooks and rope , phone wire looking charms etc. add colour and a sense of explorer attitude to the otherwise sombre winter collection. They almost seem like souvenirs you pick up from some hill tribes while trekking those ski mountains.

Anyone for some skiing adventure next fall?

Loewe Fall Winter 2010 Menswear And Bags

For the coming winter season, Stuart Vevers continues to work his understated magic on Spanish Luxury Brand, Loewe. Bags are created to win the hearts of male bags fans not thru overtly embellished details but thru classic shapes and pared down designs. I bet even the most hardcore 'anti-manbag' male will approve. This design vision extends right down to the menswear, which sees very refined male dressing, a suave gentlemen who does not scream for attention, but knows his immaculate style.

House signatures such as the Amazona Suede Weekender and Messenger bags are given a new shade of delectable burgundy red (LOVE!!!), while there are leather totes/briefcases worthy of any boardrooms. I however, do not approve of the oversize logo bag designs (Named the Heritage Collection) that seem to be 'counterfeiters' heaven'. When branding becomes crudely blatant, there is an inevitably sense of tackiness that comes associated with fake bags selling from a car boot.

Céline did their take on plain shopping totes while Loewe created their 'Papalle collection'. The difference is Loewe took it to the extreme to emulate the actual brown paper bags from your local grocer, and in my opinion ultimately lacks the refine appeal that Céline's totes had. The pricing is also reassuringly expensive, with the small version costing almost SGD 2K! However for fall season, we see a large dark grey version that somewhat 'redeemed' the price and appeal.

Loewe continues to bestow their male fans with lust worthy male bags, and under Stuart Vevers' design vision, the Spanish label looks set to fast become an indispensable wardrobe option for any style savvy guy.

Burberry Dresses Ryan Seacrest For American Idol

Okay, the spotlight is on the 2 finalist. And now that the finale for the popular Amercian Idol is over and Lee DeWyze emerged the winner (I prefer the latter to win:-P...sob sob...), why dun we turn the attention to the always handsome, impeccably dressed host Ryan Seacrest, whom I adored.

And do you know who Ryan wore for the finale?!?!? Non other than Christopher Bailey for Burberry! Ryan was dressed in Burberry Brit, Burberry London and Burberry Prorsum collections as well as bespoke custom made tailoring by Burberry for the Hollywood Week and Performance episodes of American Idol.

Ryan Seacrest was dressed in a custom made Burberry tuxedo for the final episode of American Idol. 12 custom made suits also bear an insignia from Christopher Bailey "To Ryan, From Christopher 2010" along with cufflinks and pocket squares with Ryan's intials. Talk about exclusivity! Lucky Ryan!

Burberry is indeed the menswear label for the stars. Check out the clip.

My MANy Bags Trendspotting #102

Below: Are you a 'man in stripes' yet?

Below: Or maybe a 'man in stripes + pink'?

Below: Love this guy's subtle introduction of pink thru his tie and socks... so 'dandyish'...

Below: Men in bright coloured socks...works too!

Below: As does a 'man with clutch'...

Below: Robin Hood will be proud... modern 'men in tights'...

Men in Stripes, Men in Pink, Men In Tights...And More...

Sail away! One of the most noticeable trends this spring summer are these nautical inspired blue and white stripe t-shirts. The men love it, the women embrace it. Have you worn it?

And men should not be afraid of colour, especially PINKs and REDs. Used with the right amount, it adds a dash of debonair and colour accent to your outfit, making you attain a character of your own.

Who says men cannot carry clutch bags? This gentlemen above does not seem the least bit less than masculine. He pulls off his 'murse' with such flair. What about this cool Japanese guy who wear tights as if it's his second skin? Riccardo Tisci first propagate the tights under shorts look on his Givenchy Mens runway... now everyone starts following. Tights anyone?

(BTW, it's such a joy to blog in a shady porch, ceiling fan spinning, hearing the birds chirp and surrounded by greenery. Except maybe those disgusting screaming kids should be 'eradicated'!:-P Time to leave the 'sanctuary' and go for a walk and exploration...beach beckons!)

Christian Louboutin Fall Winter 2010 Womens Shoes

Look who's back? Those lean and mean studded Christian Louboutin Rollerball shoes comes haunting at your bank account yet again with leopard or black & white stripe haircalf leather for next Fall Winter 2010! There's even gold studs for added bling now! Since these androgynous shoes always recurs in the mens collection, will the boys get a similar version as well? Please let us have a white leather version. I do not even mind the black and white haircalf! I love Rollerball! The red trimmings make the shoe pop:-P

The now signature Louis Trainers also gets a whole new makeover in suede tones of sandy beiges and blacks, all adorned with silver studs we so love and covet (looks like you can now take a trip to Abu Dhabi in these suede shoes, like those SATC girls!) As for partying footwear, how about disco like metallic versions with purple trim or silver stingray-looking leather to add a notch of glamour?

Beyond Rollerball and Louis shoes, Freddy Flats lace-ups is also reinterpreted in rich deep red and royal blue velvet. How regal:-P

Lastly, I adore the haircalf leather trainers with black & white stripe in the front and red for the rest, making this pair of trainers truly eye catching!

Shopping Saturday: Lanvin Grosgrain Ribbon Collar Checkered Shirt

Last week I went to Lanvin Boutique at Hilton Hotel to do some browsing which is always not a good idea, as in the end, I came out of the shop non empty handed. Ever since watching 'A Single Man' (I bought the book on Friday!), I am so taken by geeky, preppy looks. I have been searching for some 'geek' shirts to compliment my Thakoon thick plastic rim frames. Not wanting to settle for normal looking shirts that everyone can find anywhere, Lanvin seems to bear potential to find unique designs.

My shopping instincts was right, I found this Grosgrain Ribbon Collar Checkered Shirt, that features not a cotton fabric collar, but grosgrain ribbon, a material that has somehow become synonymous with Lanvin! Have never seen any shirts ever using this material as part of a shirt, I always thought grosgrain ribbon is usually for gift wrapping or at most... as piping on clothing. So this was definitely unique and what I have been looking for...a good innovation!

There were 2 colours for the shirt, one with blue mini checks and the other in white with red and grey checks. I tried on both. In the end, the latter looked more 'geeky', so I went with that! After a nip and tuck at the sleeves to tighten it down, I collected my new shirt yesterday. I declare next weekend, 'Geeky Saturday'... can't wait to wear the shirt next week!

(Dressing room shots are taken over 2 weekends, hence the different shorts...)
