My MANy Bags News #161

Bloggers Scaring Designers...

First Alber Elbaz of Lanvin mentioned his fear of bloggers as they get really judgemental just by the pictures they see on computer screens. He believes sometimes what looks good on screen does not necessary feel good on the body. He realises trusting his own eyes is his way to better determine his creative vision. Now Christopher Kane joins the ranks of designers scared of bloggers:

Designers are really starting to sound off on bloggers — Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have been plastered all over the place after seating four bloggers in their Spring 2010 front row; Gabbana told the Wall Street Journal: "It's the future. How many young customers don't read newspapers — they read blogs!"

Alber Elbaz recently admitted that he's "really scared of bloggers," and it sounds like Christopher Kane tends to agree. He told Vogue UK:

“It’s a bit mad, isn’t it? It feels like it’s happened all of a sudden and at some shows this season the front row was just all bloggers. I think it will die down though, and people know what they are doing. No one who wants to read a serious review of a show is going to look at what a 14-year-old thinks. But it has become more critical; people can say what they want about anyone on a blog without consequences and that’s quite scary. There are real repercussions for a designer if a photo of something is leaked by a blog; it can be copied in a fortnight and that can really harm a business. You have to be much more careful now.”

Bloggers are undeniably effective in helping to spread information or share their views, but we do need to be fair and responsible for what we write. Are we to replace editors to critic a collection?... hopefully not! I miss Tim Blanks' men.style.com reviews already!

  3. "I think it will die down though"...tut tut....living in the past and being ignorant about things doesn't mean things won't change.

Blogs will never replace editorial but it will replace traditional medium. Editorial will eventually go fully electronic. D&G certainly has vision.
