Bottega Veneta Spring Summer 2010 Ad Campaign: Shot By Nan Goldin!

No wonder the feel of Bottega Veneta's Spring Summer 2010 Ad Campaign seemed different. It's not shot by fashion photographers but by fine art/documentary photographer Nan Goldin (I love her work ever since I saw her pieces at Sydney's museum) whose work are emotional, intimate, often autobiogprahical but always empathetic. Her sometimes 'brutally real' and voyeuristic pictures evokes emotions which moves you deeply.

It was exactly this palpable empathy which permeates Goldin’s work that led Bottega Veneta Creative Director Tomas Maier to approach her for the new Spring 2010 Ad Campaign.

“The Spring-Summer 2010 collection is very personal, a collaboration with the woman who wears the clothes,” explains Maier. “Nan’s work is intensely personal, with a sincere and unusual focus on the individual. I also admire the formal beauty of her work, the distinctive sense of color and composition she brings to a photograph without ever seeming to impose her aesthetic on her subject.”

The Spring-Summer 2010 collection is an exploration of individuality. Serene and simple, it features a spare palette of white, ivory, cream, and straw. Touches of egg yolk yellow, Delft blue, orchid, and fever red animate the accessories and a few noteworthy dresses. In this collection, the sensibility of the woman is paramount. Her pale clothes serve as a canvas that’s blank until she completes it. It is the individual – the shape of her body, her movements, and her choice of shoes, bag, and jewelry – that determines the final look.

I can't wait to see the rest of the campaign. It is refreshing to see how artists interpret fashion with their unique vision of the world.

And of course Sean O'Pry is a pleasure to look at any day!
