Montblanc has launched another new timepiece collection: The Heritage Chronométrie Collection. Paying tribute to the famed 15th century explorer, Vasco da Gama, who used stars and primitive nautical devices like the nocturlabium or “star clock” to navigate the seas. His quest lead to the discovery of a new trade route to India, fostering trade between Europe and Asia.

One of the enviable designs and my favourite is the Montblanc Heritage Chronométrie Quantième Complet Vasco da Gama. The Calibre MB 29.16 movement powers a full calendar and moonphase display with an aperture for a golden turning disc below featuring the moon in the night sky. The subtle sunburst patterned white dial also features rhodium-plated facetted indexes and numerals “3”, “9” and “12” on the dial for easy time telling. These details creates a clean and balanced watch face, packing function without crowding and complicating the design.

With a 40mm dial, the Heritage Chronométrie Quantième Complet Vasco da Gama looks just right on the wrists of any guy, neither too dainty small nor cumbersome to wear as a dress or day watch. I adore the elegant styling mixed with modern aesthetic of a blued lacquered subdial depicting the sky with the Southern Cross in the Southern hemisphere which brings a story behind the watch, distinguishing itself from other watch designs.

At 4,350 euros, Heritage Chronométrie Quantième Complet Vasco da Gama is well priced and deserving collectible for any watch fans!
