Below: One of my favourite Spring Summer 2014 mens collection: Balmain Homme has all the right themes and details that gets high marks from me... Nautical, workwear, luxury, military... it's a wearable collection with many coveted pieces. Such as this jacket with Sailor Appliqués...
Below: There's also vintage Chanel-like tweed jackets embellished with thick chains and hardware, and intricate denim on denim patchwork that are true works of art as much as a beautiful fashion piece...
My Spring Summer 2014 Menswear Favourites: Balmain Homme With a multi talented Serge Gainsbourg (French singer, songwriter, poet, composer, artist, actor and director.) as his muse, it’s no wonder Olivier Rousteing’s Balmain Spring Summer 2014 Mens Collection are equally layered with inspirations. From workwear (overalls and mechanics jumpsuit) to vintage Chanel-like tweed jackets to a St. Tropez nautical homage filled with Marinière stripes and sailors’ appliquéd badges... this is one collection that departs away from the grunge and grime we have associated with Balmain during Christophe Decarnin days. But instead, we see French chic relaxed, polished and luxe up.
Balmain Spring Summer 2014 is highly wearable, with piece after piece that you will simply want to own. My pick goes to anything navy (blue is a key colour for SS2014), especially the jackets that feature military 'Anchor' appliqués (my favourite kind of motif) and the looser trousers that seem to be infiltrating the streets of fashion capitals this fashion season. Even the Ballerina inspired monkstraps are a high possibility to add to my closet. What about you?
