The Material Boy #76

Jil Sander Blue Leather 'Cut-out' Sandals

I think by now, all of you would have guessed I am a huge fan of sandals. I dun know why...but it seems I love the feeling of having my feet properly 'ventilated' and it feels so comfortable amidst Singapore's warm and humid weather. These days designers have made sandals an important accessory for any male's wardrobe, sometimes to the extent of becoming a key trend for a season, such as this season's gladiator style sandals.

Jil Sander always 'escaped' my 'shopping radar' for many years. Maybe the refined minimal brand direction has not resonate with me the past years. But as of this spring summer 2008 season, I adore the creations of Raf Simons. He made transparency and lightness so appealing and his colour palette was refreshing and the silhouettes appealing for slim people like me. I especially love the sandals he had for this season. So here am I, introducing another design of his. This blue leather 'cut-out' style(which seem to be a key trend for SS08 footwear) sandals may not look the most stunning on the shelf but when worn, it always looks gorgeous matched with skinny pants. I have seen so many fashion editorials that feature this design (together with the triangle cut version I bought) and I am completely sold for this pair as well. Club 21 still has this pair of sandals in a lighter blue and I am hoping to get it during sale time, if sizes are still available. I am never complaining about more shoes. hahaha.

Retail price: SGD $699. Where to buy: Club 21 Mens at Four Seasons Hotel

yes, I am waiting for sale time...but I fear the sizes run out. Cos' the triangle cut pair I had was sold out. Dun see it on the shelves anymore. cross my fingers it will still be around:-P and good luck on your end as well to get the sandals. and yes, the gap shirt by michael bastian! wow...lucky you. I wonder if singapore will bring in those range.

oh on one last note, SGD $700 for a pair of Jil Sander sandals seem reasonable if you look at what CK calvin Klein is charging for theirs. They are charging a hefty SGD 599 for a black gauze leather strap sandals! I would rather buy Jil Sander. CK is not worth that much as it is not as exclusive as Jil Sander. You probably find so many others wearing the same sandals as you on the street. I would wait for sale to get Ck. And the reason why they charge such high price is becos the sandals is made in Italy. Can you believe it? CK Calvin Klein as expensive as Jil Sandal or Marni..grrr...food for thought. I have no prejudice for CK Calvin Klein, I love their clothes this season. Just that I find the shoe pricing too high for a 2nd line brand.

I like the Jil Sander sandals too. But there's something about it that I just can't point my finger at. I think the closest I can come to is that it looks a little too neat and clean for a pair of sandals which is suppose to look a rugged. Also the colour of the footbed is a little too light. Footprints on such a nice pair of sandals is a disaster haha

Jil Sander's look is polished and clean hence the very structured design for the sandal:-) as for the footbed, hehe, make sure you have celan feet before you wear. Seems this pair of sandals is garnering lots of likes:-) it's an editorial darling for stylist too:-) I love the cut outs on the sides. Wonder if Club 21 still have sizes.:-) Have you broken into your Tod's sandals?
