The Material Boy #510

Kitsuné Western Denim Shirt

Mr Porter has started their much anticipated sale since Boxing Day. I had not had the time to browse the sale (with all the wine and dine gourmet onslaught I am subjecting myself now while on holiday)... but upon my second shopping scouring, this Kitsuné Western Denim Shirt immediately caught my eye!

Which guy does not look good in a denim shirt? It's as good as your indispensable jeans. Somewhat crease resistant and rugged for all occasions, but dressed it up with a blazer for a dandy twist. And this Kitsuné version features a gorgeous texture on the denim fabric and crafted in Japan! Love the western details which I guess got inspired by the wild west romance of 'Brokeback' mountain:-)

Now at 50% off (£114.58)... it's a must buy for an item that will stay relevant for many years to come:-) Get yours here!

Ad Campaigns And Catalogues #235

Below: Kitsuné's SS2012 Mens Collection lets you travel to the optimistic era of 1920's and be inspired by American classic movie 'The Great Gatsby'....
Below: Preppy and smart...
Below: Pastel colours for a refreshing summer in the city... Enduring 'redefined' classics that will stay in your wardrobe for a long time to come...
Kitsuné Spring Summer 2012 Menswear: The Great Gatsby

Sometimes you do not bags of bells and whistles to whip up new ideas for a collection. Less is more and evoking an emotional response to the pieces can sometimes leave a deeper impression. Kitsuné is such a brand. It's not avant garde, nor does it try to position itself to be innovative and revolutionary. All the brand wanted was to define the ‘new classic‘ with distinguished clothing for men and women of the highest quality for everyday life. Taking references from yesteryear and turning them into a modern story.

Fall Winter 2011 moved you with the romance of 'Brokeback Mountain'. And for the upcoming Spring Summer 2012, Kitsuné wants to bring you the optimistic spirit of 'The Great Gatsby' where American society enjoyed prosperity during the roaring 1920's when the economy soared. Suffice to day, men's dressing then was elegant, refined and with a bright outlook. This was reflected in the SS2012 Kitsuné collection but made relevant for today. A collection with simple, enduring pieces that stays in your wardrobe for many years to come. I am already a fan.

Here's the synopsis of the collection:
This Spring Summer 2012 collection lives part-time in Long Island’s North Shore and the rest of the time in Manhattan. It’s the juxtaposition of soft cotton and linen fabrics with city style shapes. Inspired by famous American classic movie “The Great Gatsby” which is the adaption of a novel by F.Scott Fitzgerald published in 1925, the collection features strong pastel colours mixed with cream & taupe based, impeccable Japanese Oxford cotton for the classic shirt, amazing Italian linen-cotton for the cocktail jacket, new washing care for the summer jeans, and cool check for the shirting. The collection has a flawless conception of great quality fabrics, visual colour matching, and a timeless philosophy. It’s about going away for the weekend, driving from the city apartment to the Long Island holiday house in a pastel cotton safari jacket, poplin button down shirt, white washed selvitch chino pants and colourful deerskin moccasins.

My MANy Bags Lookbook #26

Below: I want to make a stripey statement this Fall Winter 2011...

Stripe Statement

I have been thinking about statement trousers for the longest time. Something out of the convention of single coloured or common menswear patterns (such as checks, houndstooth etc). Something with a bit more zest and excitement.

Today, I spotted this pair of bright green 3.1 Phillip Lim Stripe Jacquard Trousers which got me inspired. I decided to build a look around it to see if I can convince myself to adopt the style.

Colour blocking was a dominant trend for SS2011... but bright hues managed to survive and Fall Winter 2011 remains the season for colours. These bright green trousers is timely to befit the ongoing colour trend and perfect as an opposing base for any basics. I decided to balance the 'bohemian' look of the trousers with a refined collegiate style, reminiscent of intellectual undergrads, playfully mixing it up with opposing pieces in their wardrobe.

For the top, I am keeping it smart with a 3.1 Phillip Navy blazer, grey wool knit sweater to rein in the intellectual aspect of college life. A Kitsuné stripe wool scarf also helps to add another level of Harvard flair.

To keep the stripe theme going, I choose Prada's Fall Winter 2011 thick soled brogues which features a striking white stripe across the sides and fun Paul Smith stripe pattern socks. It's truly a 'stripes united' moment!

I always believe no look is ever complete without a bag. So my bag of choice is Kitsuné's large canvas weekend bag that keeps to the college feel, functional and non pretentious. Finally, Lanvin's silk twill flower pin brooch completes the look with a welcoming dandy touch. Now, you are ready to charm the ladies and impress fellow gentlemen:-)
