Gucci Flora Knight Mens Bags Collection

Florals and plants have been a constant source of inspiration for designers when designing for Spring Summer seasons. Botanical prints bring about a flamboyant sense of joy and freedom. Nature have a way to enthralled us with all their colours and beautiful organic forms.

Just as Valentino has gone full on for prints this SS2015, Gucci launches their Flora Knight collection that gets us back in touch with mother nature, albeit in a sexier and luxurious way. Whimsical, colour botanical and floral motifs set against a dark background add a sense of mystery, offsetting the colours to showcase the brilliance of the pattern. Perfect on mens accessories, the collection introduces the prints on coveted mens canvas and leather backpacks (€890), totes (€695), clutch bags (€260) and even travel trolleys (USD2950). Boys will not lose out to the ladies this season especially when it comes to stunning prints.

These patterned bags will make ideal travel companions when you basked under a warm summer sun in Tuscany or lounge beachside in Bali.

I want the backpack!

Zara Spring Summer 2015 Mens Collection: My Picks

Below: Time to update your wardrobe with on trend pieces for Spring Summer 2015... here's some Zara pieces to consider to get your tailored sportwears looks for the new season... I love this pair of joggers and silver metallic boat shoes. Read below to find out why:-)

Below: Skates are easy to wear and so comfy. These are my picks for the season from Zara... from croc embossed textures in navy to...

Below: ... tropical prints canvas versions...

Zara Spring Summer 2015 Mens Collections: My Picks

Mixing high fashion with fast fashion is a great way to update your wardrobe without hurting your wallets. Zara is my go to brand for their good balance of trend and basic pieces. For Spring Summer 2015, tailoring in athletic wear is a key theme that runs across many designers. But investing in a tonne of expensive high fashion pieces from this sports inspired season may not be feasible unless you have a matching gargantuan budget. So Zara’s on-trend options allows you to buy into the looks and still stay off the red on your bank accounts.

Here’s my picks for this new season... I have kept in mind the functionality and sportswear theme, so I don’t get something that will end up being a white elephant.

1) Drawstring Jogging Pants (SGD109): I love this pair of jogging pants. Joggers are featured on many designers’ collection and are a key style for the season. I like this Zara’s version because it mixes tailoring details with sporting aesthetics. So you continue wearing them even when the sports trend is over. The waist and pocket areas are designed very much like your regular tailored trousers but the elastic cuffs at the hems and drawstring waist brings about the sought-after athletic look. I love the slightly elastic jersey material which is very comfortable while the cut being more fitted than regular sweat pants  makes for a sharper silhouette. I  am very happy with my navy one. Comes in grey as well. Love this!

2) Silver Boat Shoes (SGD159): Boat shoes are indispensable when it comes to spring summer wear. They bring a sense of the yachting season where they go most perfect with shorts and ankle length trousers. So this is must-have, especially when updated with a silver metallic finish. Something different than solid colours, slightly glamourous and yet so versatile. I need these.

3) Trendy Slip-ons in Navy Croc Embossed texture (SGD109):
Céline and Kenzo x Vans can be blamed for my renewed interest in these ‘skates’ style footwear. They are so easy to slip on and out, and comfortable to wear all day long. Now with croc and smooth navy texture, they are even a better reason to acquire A touch of formal that you can wear day and night.

4) Printed Slip-ons (SGD79.90): When these skates come in tropical prints... it’s a no brainer. Take them on beach holidays and wear with brightly hued pants and shorts for maximum holiday chic. Because of the canvas construction, they are lighter and easy to pack away in your luggages.

5) Patchwork Jacket (SGD139):
An extra layer is always welcomed should you want some layering or keeping warmth in the evenings. This Zara jacket is sporty and features colour blocking patchwork design which inject colour and pattern for a whole lot of matching possibilities. Being sporty, you can easily replicate some of the season’s hottest runway looks.

3.1 Phillip Lim 31 Hour Backpack

Below: 3.1 Phillip Lim 31 Hour Backpack... now updated with a slimmer silhouette and cleaner lines... I love the design and size!
Below: 3.1 Phillip Lim 31 Hour Backpack in Cement looks amazing... the back of the backpack has these cool looking cris cross 'X' details which shows the design pays attention to all facets of the bag...

3.1 Phillip Lim 31 Hour Backpack

3.1 Phillip Lim embodies the lifestyle and attitudes of the urban male. Uncomplicated, edgy and always ahead of the style game. We have loved the 31 Hour Bag, which was designed with form and function in mind for every hour of the day. It has now evolved to be the brand’s classic and still very much adored.

So it was no surprise that a backpack for the 31 Hour series gets introduced to Phillip Lim’s accessories collection. Now updated with a slimmer hood, cleaner lines and a comfortable padded back, this backpack has all the thoughtful details and aesthetics to match the high demands of the style forward male. I love the quiet appeal and shape, inspired by familiar college backpacks but revisited for luxury. The cement grey colour looks especially appealing and I appreciate the roomy capacity with an interior zipper and 2 exterior pockets that helps to keep things organised. The interesting ‘X’ crisscross design for the shoulder straps also makes for a cool design statement, goes to show,  attention to design was being paid to all facets of the bag. With buttery soft leather that gets better with use, the 3.1 Phillip Lim 31 Hour Backpack is definitely an urban piece to consider, taking you places while looking good at the same time! Love it:-)

(Priced at USD1095 for the full grain cow leather version while a more affordable nylon and leather trim version retails for USD750. Size is 17”H x 13”W x 7”D)

Valentino Spring Summer 2015 Mens Opens Low-Top Sneakers

Below: I have loved Valentino's Open Low-Top Sneakers ever since they were first launched a couple of seasons ago... Now I loved the new Spring Summer 2015 versions in coloured Suede and contrasting leather... Perfect to match up some prints for a casual summer style!

Below: For those white shoe lovers... choose from regular coloured leather panels or metallic gold options... I want the latter!

Valentino Spring Summer 2015 Mens Open Low-Top Sneakers

Valentino's Open Sneakers have joined the ranks of their coveted Rockrunners as one of the recurring shoe designs offered for each season. The easy slip-on sneakers, with a contrasting leather band across the middle, creates a cool colourblock effect, perfect to layer without being intrusive.  This simple yet striking detail coupled with concealed shoe laces makes the shoes highly versatile and interesting. For Spring Summer 2015, I really love the versions in suede and leather as featured on the runway. Breaking away from the familiar classic white leather, now the open sneakers come in coloured suede of grey and sand... contrasted with bright maroon and turquoise blue leather panels. A refreshing update indeed.

Match with brightly hued patterned outfits from Valentino’s SS2015 mens collection (or patterned pieces from other collections) for an easy summer style. Who wants a pair? I do!

Retails for USD745. The pair with a metallic gold panel is my pick!

Céline Summer 2015 Bags, Shoes And Accessories

Below: My picks for some guy-friendly Céline bags, shoes and accessories this Summer 2015... Check them out... Céline Skates (if you have a small enough feet) are must haves in my opinion... Love the tan textured croc pair! The Curved Evening Clutch (comes in black or white) is another good gender bending option... interesting curved base and refreshing silhouette:-)

Below: These vertical cabas features striking patterns perfect for a cheerful summer season!

Guy Friendly Céline Summer 2015 Bags, Shoes And Accessories

Céline have always tread on the middle ground when it comes to their womenswear designs. Their minimal and modern accessories have often been non-gender bias and appealing, that boys and girls fall in love with them all the same.

After combing thru their Summer 2015 collection, here’s my choice picks on interesting pieces which I feel could work very well on a guy. Yes, time for some gender bender shopping!

The Vertical Cabas have always been a favourite of mine. And when it comes in a striking red and blue diamond jacquard with lambskin leather (Euro1000), the result is a guy-friendly tote but with all the bold pattern and colours often lacking in the mens bags. For a more paired-down option, go for the vertical cabas in textile with natural and red stripes (Euro780). Part Mediterranean, part city modern... this will be a perfect getaway bag!

Both cabas come with matching Solo Clutch pouch (Euro320 - 400) that bears similar patterns and materials. Good things do come in a set:-)

Another unique design that catches my eye is the Curved Evening Clutch in Palmelato Calfskin (Euro800), reminding me of those wrist strap pouches that business guys love to carry. But of course Céline’s version is tastefully different employing a curved base paired with a foldover closure... challenging the convention of flat and rectangle format.

On to footwear... guys who have smaller feet are the lucky ones who are able to fit into Céline’s highly coveted Skates sneakers. With savvy colours and materials, Phoebe Philo has turned this generic sportive design into an understated fashion statement. For this season get a pair in Sun Tiger Snake (Euro750) or Black and White Stripes Canvas (Euro480) or Tan Stamped Croc (Euro580)... you just cannot go wrong with these comfortable and versatile footwear. Great match for any summer wardrobe.

And if sneakers is not your game, perhaps a revisited Espadrille Slipper in black calfskin (Euro380) could serve you just as well over warmer days to come. I love this Céline’s variant, bearing a more minimal silhouette.

Façonnable x Jean Cocteau Capsule Collection For Spring Summer 2015

Below: Under the new artistic director, Daniel Kearns, Façonnable is on track to revamp their brand image and pay homage to their French Riviera roots. For a special capsule collection for Spring Summer 2015, prepare to get into the mood of this idyllic holiday destination of the rich and famous, artistically infused with the fantastical drawings of the late French artist, poet, and filmmaker Jean Cocteau.
Below: From understated and artistically infused totes, espadrilles and slip-on skates (my favourite!) to ready to wear... the refined wardrobe for a French Riviera vacation can be yours:-)

Façconable x Jean Cocteau Capsule Collection for Spring Summer 2015

Façonnable, a tailoring label founded by Jean Goldberg in Nice back in 1950, became famous for kitting out Hollywood’s A-list for the Cannes Film festival. Under the new handsome artistic director, Daniel Kearns, the labels is on track to revamp the brand and pay homage to its French Riviera roots. For a special capsule collection for Spring Summer 2015, prepare to get into the mood of this idyllic holiday destination of the rich and famous, artistically infused with the fantastical drawings of the late French artist, poet, and filmmaker Jean Cocteau. Façonnable x Jean Cocteau Capsule Collection offers immaculate holiday wardrobe pieces, reimagined with Cocteau’s signature motifs such as eight point star, the infinity sign and treble clef eye, and the Inca twin heads. Sir Pierre Bergé (partner of Yves Saint Laurent), President of the Jean Cocteau Committee gave his approval, a testament to the Façonnable’s tasteful expression of the artist's work on contemporary fashion. The predominantly navy and white Cocteau inspired designs appear across a variety of mens and womens garments and accessories such as scarves (Euro195), tote bags (Euro575), espadrilles (Euro425), sunglasses, cuff-links, and pins allowing the consumer to integrate a bit of the French Riviera into their style no matter where they are.

I am loving the mood the collection creates, as evidenced by the collection’s video (Watch the film above). The Skates sneakers (SGD390 or Euro195) with the eight point star print gets my top pick as does the double breasted navy with a subtle embroidered illustrated face. Wonderfully refined and vacation inducing. Now I need a holiday to wear these pieces! (Façonnable x Jean Cocteau Capsule Collection is stocked at Barney’s New York and Los Angeles, Selfridges London, Colette Paris, 10 Corso Como Milan, Lane Crawford HK, Club 21 Singapore, Tomorrow Land Tokyo, and Harrold’s Sydney among other locations.)

The collection is now available at Club 21 Mens store in Singapore. Definitely going to take a closer look this coming weekend:-)

Below: From the tastefully shot lookbook to the ads and the video(see above)... the mood of the collection is set to inspire...

Saint Laurent Spring Summer 2015 Mens Psych Rock Collection: Camouflage

Below: Saint Laurent Spring Summer 2015 Mens 'Psych Rock' Collection... these camouflage pieces are my favourite influences in the highly divisive collection. Layer with bohemian, cowboy and rock star inspired collection to achieve the intriguing complex Saint Laurent look:) Backpacks looking great for Summer!
Below: The military jacket with a gold fringe detail captures army surplus and band jackets perfectly. Fringe camouflage print scarf adds a bohemian flair...Love these.

Saint Laurent Spring Summer 2015 Mens Psych Rock Collection: Camouflage

Hedi Slimane’s Saint Laurent have always embodied a divisive range of inspirations. His fascination with youth culture and the west coast music scene are fundamentals of his creations, but for Spring Summer 2015, mixed with an unexpected offbeat styles of fringe band jackets, poncho, sheepskin vest, army surplus, embroidered jeans, amulets, snakeskin boots, garage band...the list goes on. Sounds incohesive, not when the attitude is all about bringing these elements together and creating the multi-dimensional Saint Laurent male.

What captures me for this Spring Summer 2015’s ‘Psych Rock’collection are the camouflage pieces, a slight surprise for me for the french fashion house. Glamourous in its attitude, the pieces are not to be absorb at its surface value, but for you to layer it up with all the other influences in the collection. Throw in some outback cowboy, bohemian or rock star attitude, these camouflage pieces renders the wearer a new sensibility that only Saint Laurent can achieve. But for those wanting to interpret these pieces at surface value, camouflage as what it is, the masculine print crafted with utmost precision in cuts and couture-like details make these belong in glitzy clubs than in the trenches.

I will take those backpacks and that interesting military jacket with gold fringe details anyday. Cool stuff!
Below: The layered looks on Saint Laurent's SS2015 runway... the beauty of Saint Laurent's looks is that it is a combination of influences to attain the attitude...
