Ad Campaigns & Catalogues #04
Marc By Marc Jacobs Fall Winter 2008/2009 Campaign With Cole Mohr
Oh my...has Marc Jacobs gone a little too far? For one of his latest fall winter 2008/2009 campaign ads for Marc By Marc Jacobs, he is using a male model (Cole Mohr, he's got a weird look:-P) posing in the pictures wearing a girl's dress and holding a handbag! I was not sure at first if that is a gal with a short haircut or a guy...and it is a guy!
Oh my...wonder if it will be effective in reaching out the the fairer gender. But one thing is for sure, it does get some good looks, no matter if they are positive or negative. This is taking gender bending to a very extreme:-)
What do you think? Yay or nay? For me...Glurp....kinda hard to swallow.:-P
Update: I just uploaded another of Cole's ads for Marc By Marc Jacobs!

Who could resist the infectious Cole?
OMG I was just thinking the same thing when I opened the pages of the new W magazine, he was in a minidress with a ribbon! but the other picture was jacket and pants so at least i think it was for marc for marc jacobs mens line or something...! Definitely attention grabbing if anything... LOL!!!
I think its humourous (did I spell that right..?). Perhaps not to be taken too seriously. Its fun. I had a feeling gender bending would be coming. It's natural, after all stiff old-school tailoring with its rules of this and that.
Your taste is indeed so similar to mine.. I like your new Gucci belt, and as you say, I am also both a fan of minimalist and maximalist styles. Sometimes I wonder if I am not a bit schizophrenic in this matter. And the boots under Material Boy #103, I was looking for boots just like these. I think I'll check with the Gucci store in Stockholm.. But I suspect they wont be cheap.
Indeed. He can pull off a lot of looks, I mean Cole Mohr. I think Hedi used him a lot for Dior Homme.
Oh yes, the ad is attention grabbing for sure. Handbag toting boys will be very happy. Now they have a 'role' model to follow. hahaha. Even prada has 'mini skirts' for men this fall season.
Hi Jens, yes, we do share similar taste. let us know if you get the boots. Perfect for winter time.
I think this ad is pushing gender bending to the max. Which only works for runway impact, fashion ads and editorials. Guys dressing like that and carrying handbag like that...it's ahem...not really appealing. I do approve of gender bending...but the items have to look unisex to make it work. Perhaps there will be a shift in fashion perception soon. But who knows, fashion is a playground for the most influential of designers. So it's their game:-) and fashion victims are their pawns:-P But that is what makes fashion so fun. ever evolving and changing.
OH MY...........IT IS SO RIDICULOUS FOR COLE TO TO BE ON AN AD CAMPAIGN WITH A GIRLS DRESS AND A HANDBAG...IS MARC JACOB TRYING TO SELLS COLE"s BEAUTY TO GIRLS , SO THAT THEY WILL BUY THE BAG...HA....
Well, you have to give credit to cole mohr having great smooth legs there. Some gals have elephant thighs and cole's legs will be their dream legs. hahahah!
ha.....yur rite..
It's not ridicolus at all. This is the perfect way to create a buzz. and since Agyness or whatever her name is is the supermodel of the moment, the boys have to follow. I for one prefer for instant Fords ad campaign. Those for me are models and that is a great campaign.
The Tom ford ad is treading a thin line between tasteful and porno.:-)
but I think it looks great for the Tom ford campaign. I do like it. very different and bold. But I think those ads put a lot of mags here on adult content. All sealed up and no browsing. :-( Grrr...
Cole looks like a little girl in the marc jacobs ad. He is so slender:-)
oh my.....tom ford and marc jacob have different things in mind , probably tom ford is more into porno, take as an example viviene westwood in the 80"s,it was all about porno graphics...but for me stil,if marc wanna create a buzz with cole been like a girl,it could influence young tennagers to wear girly stuff.no wonder there is a lot of homosexuality and people changing sexual.IT IS ALL BECAUSE OF THIS DESIGN BOX..............
You are kinda unintelligent hairi, you are born to your sexuality and you pick your own style. It's all up to your self. Designers just want to make money, so they just want to create major buzzez. Have you ever been present when an adcampaign is being created? Do you know what people talk about when they are about to do a major ad? The only thing that matters is how much attention can they get from magazines, blogs and so on to make sure that they sell. Both Marc and Tom are on the same path, sex always sell. They are both just as sexuall but have different styles, cause their brands attract different target groups.
All in all, the ad is just a fun ad which fulfills the brand director of Marc By Marc Jacobs. A young and quirky brand who is experimental and focuses on individuality:-) So the ads do keep in line with the brand feel. Let's treat this as an ad for impact purposes rather than dwell too deep into it. It is what advertisement does. Grab your attention:-)
MY OH MY WAT HAS MY INTELLIGENT GOT TO DO WITH THAT AD , IT WAS JUST AN AD............HA....OR MAYBE UR OUT OF UR MIND..HEE.......MR design box..
any way kevin do u thing designer could only use sexuality to make money...there is definetly more than one ways to make money other than using sexuality....
I would like to see the other pictures. Does anyone know if they are on the internet somewhere? Checked the homepage of MJ but couldnt find them.
Cool down boys:-) This is just an ad:-P Let's just enjoy it. And not get into any exchange of words here. This is a happy shopping blog. hahaha:-)
Whether sex sells or not, let's leave it for the designers and other consumers to decide:-)
okay?:-P
Jens, I just uploaded another of the MJ ads by Cole Mohr:-) He is wearing a dress! hahaha
The dress pic - I think that's really funny. It's great!
This ad must be seen as successful, judging from the response in this forum it has managed to provoke strong reactions.
Hello Jens, happy weekends to you. Yeah, I totally agree. The ad campaign definitely did what it was meant for. Get people talking:-P
check bryanboy.com if you want to know where the inspiration for this ad came from.....
