The Modern Work Bag: Saint Laurent Classic Museum Briefcase And More

Under the creative direction of Hedi Slimane, Saint Laurent bags have taken a modernistic and minimal approach. Devoid of excessive hardware and the old Y-paneling details, Hedi Slimane’s Saint Laurent designs exemplify the concept of 'less is more'. The new bags exude a quiet sophistication with a sense of modernity. Hence, the Classic Duffel and the Sac De Jour bags ranks top among my arm candy favourites. I just love the idea of focusing on details and keeping everything else simple and timeless. However, it seems the more memorable designs are from the womens collection and there has been a void in their mens range for an office worthy companion.

Fall Winter 2013 mens collection to the rescue. Check out 2 new briefcases which I am a fan. First one is a handcarry option called the Classic Museum Briefcase (SGD2880) which comes in a man friendly size of 16” length, 4” depth, 12” height. Not only is the outlook professional and contemporary, but I am especially drawn to exclusive textured grain de poudre leather which references back to the grain poudre fabric used on the original Saint Laurent smoking suit. There’s always something about YSL history that adds to the charm. Structured and poised, this is one proud arm candy to impress at the workplace.

For those who are not a fan of hand carry bags, then choose the second design that comes with a shoulder strap option in buffed leather (approx. SGD2980 at Luisaviaroma). This shoulder strap briefcase bears signature details from the highly popular Saint Laurent classic duffels. For a change, the front paneling unlike on duffels, serve a function as a magnetic closure pocket, handy to access any items quickly. The shoulder strap allows maximum mobility, leaving you hands free while commuting about town. Should you decide to do away with the shoulder trap, the rectangular metal rings to hook the strap on, do not stick out like a sore thumb. It blends well to the clean lines of bag design as if it's a deliberate detail, which is commendable. A testament to a well thought out design. Well done.

Great. The last one I bought was a samsonite briefcase.
