The Material Boy #373

Below: or my favourite... #3: This gorgeous short sleeve shirt with shoulder panel details (but in olive green)!

Louis Vuitton Spring Summer 2010 Wishlist: If I have SGD$1000 Edition...

Never in a million years will I expect myself to lust for Louis Vuitton pieces in multiple quantities, not one but 3 at the same time. Louis Vuitton monograms are not my cup of tea anymore. Their bag design though classic, usually gets too safe and does not resonate with me. Their ready to wear is even more elusive to me... it either cuts too big or too expensive to make me want to own them.

But using New York bike messengers as the source of inspiration for Spring Summer 2010's mens collection, the designs get an instant urban edge, especially with new desirable taiga leather colours. I was 'foolish' enough yesterday to attempt to hit the LV store at Ngee Ann City to view the collection without being succumbing to temptation (Blame it on their highly 'drool-able' catalogue featuring Gabriel Aubry, Halle Berry's boyfriend). Sure enough, I spotted 3 things I want... and I mean LUST!

First, is this pair of leather strap sandals, Messenger Sandals in either Beige or Bleu Gris Taiga Leather. There is a heel pad at the back which adds comfort when wearing. The cool new shades of taiga leather makes it easy to hit my want list! It's LVoe at first sight. Beyond that, I saw the lace-up version of the family, the Messenger Richelieu Lace-ups spotting a remarkably beautiful side detail inspired by butterfly wings. The round toe shape makes this a pair of modern dandy shoes perfect to be worn with pants or bermudas. The taiga leather also adds textural interest to the shoe and sets it apart from its peers. I can definitely foresee lots of occassions to wear this versatile shoe.

Lastly, spotted on the clothing racks is this runway featured short sleeve shirt (not the exact version worn by the model) with shoulder panel details. The one I saw is a solid military olive green with tone on tone jersey panels on the shoulders, which I much prefer than the gradation coloured version from the runway. It is made from the smoothest high quality cotton and made with utmost care. The cut is amazing except for the sleeves which is always too big for my slim arms. Grrrr. I was on the verge of flashing out my credit card and make an impulsive purchase. But I held back. I was on a mission for 'Save Kevin's Bank Account', so I resisted with all my willpower. Believe me, it was tough.

So the question begs, if I have an extra S$1000 to spare... what will I buy? Will it be:
1) Messenger Sandals (S$1000)
2) Messenger Richelieu Lace-ups (S$1350..okay needs a top up of $350...but $350 is manageable eh?)
3) Military Green Short Sleeve Shirt with Shoulder Panel details (S$940)

Or all 3? What will you choose? S$1000 these days definitely do not go a long way. OMG...Lottery here I come!

Hi Mark,

I think if I were to buy any of the 3... it's the lace-ups! I love it... can't get it out of my head:-)

The lace-ups for sure!

You have so many designer accessories, shoes and bags.. maybe time for clothing?

(Still lace ups are to die for..)

I'd get the lace-ups. I wouldn't spend that much on a pair of sandals. Even if it's Vuitton.

I have been a fan of your website for sometime now but this is my frist time leaving a comment. I have purchased shoes from LV before, and within a couple of weeks had a problem. I took them to the store and see if they could fix it.....they charged me an arm and a leg literally to get something done that there factory f-ed up.

They have the worse customer service ever! Its like you are doing them the favor of shopping there. And it also happen with my carry all bag (i couldnt deal so I gave it to my little gay cousin in North Carolina, broken or not he wont care!)

ditch the LV and stick with the Dries...love the site!

sandals for 1k is simply not worth it! who knows the tiny slim straps will fall off one day? who knows....the lace-ups 's better choice

Kevin if i were youi will rather buy that wooven lace up from Dries Van Noten. I have seen the LV pair in real life and although they looks good, but they were nv worth 1.3k.

The Dries one not only looks even better but they seems like more effort was put in to manufacture the shoe.
