The Material Boy #242

Paul Smith Jeans PVC Holdall

Belt tightening times calls for affordable chic. With smaller budgets to indulge in luxury goods, I am sure everyone appreciates a little cheap and chic thrill every now and then.

I first laid eyes on this lovely and fun Paul Smith Jeans PVC Holdall in the Japanese magazine, Men's Non-No G for Spring Summer 2009. The bag featured was in white, red and blue. Very striking combination of colours with a vintage bag design. It reminds me of those sport bags from the 70's. Having not versed at all with the Japanese language, I thought the bag will be expensive and looks crafted in leather to me. I was determined to find more information on this bag.

Hence, my curiosity lead me to 'surf' it out on Paul Smith's website...and happy to report, I found the bag! Not in white, but in even more fabulous Navy with yellow and white trim. Striking colours aside (with a gorgeous purple coloured lining!), the price is even more attractive than its looks. At just £115.00, I would say, this is affordable chic to add zest and fun to your summer days!

Adorable. The perfect new gym bag. I will be in HKG in a weeks' time, may try locate this bag there, or alternatively have it sent to my UK address from the co.uk website. Why oh why doesn't Singapore Paul Smith stores (two of them!) stock any decent men's bags?!?

Oh disappointment, I just didn't like it. I'll stick with my Prada gym bag for now...

Yes, I saw the bag too...did not want to say anything before...but now that you mentioned..yes, the real thing does not live up to the picutres. Maybe I prefer real materials than synthetic ones. Leather will make this bag perfect, not PVC.:-P

Good you have trusty Prada to rely on.

Good choice!

Hello Kevin and everyone.
This bag is adorable. What a fun combination.
I own 5 Paul Smith bags, all bought in Japan. They are actually made in Japan, and I am not sure if this is the same if you shop in other countries. But they are such great value for money, the quality is really good. It is like they are impossible to wear out.

Hi Jens,

yes, the bag is cheery and colourful:-) But the PVC material makes it look kinda cheap. So when I see the real thing, I was not very impressed. But for that price, it's a great bag nevertheless. The price in SGD is $319
