Céline Spring Summer 2010 Bags and Belts

Phoebe Philo's long awaited runway collection is here! The designer who turn Chloé to fashionista gold mine is now the new designer for Céline. Controversy abounds for Phoebe's first collection with news of her almost leaving the brand before her debut. But now the dust have settled and she presented an impeccable collection of Spring Summer 2010 looks that centered on daywear and based very much on military and men's silhouettes. Very chic. Very powerful with strong clean lines. A revisit to the house roots of Céline as a luxury leather goods brand also see the fusion of leather and fabric in many stunning ready to wear pieces. Simply put, a collection that women will want to be in them.

But enough about the clothes, how about the accessories? Some like it, some find it too plain and bland. But for me, I adore it. Understated luxury in its purest form. No fancy logos, only small gold stamped branding that discreetly whispered Céline. I especially love the bags with the 'swirling' panelling design. At first glance, they look simple, but the use of different textures of materials (the snakeskin adds a great touch) with highly tasteful colour combinations make the totes a beauty to behold. The boston bags of python leather and colour blocking are also a star of their own. Other canvas bags in white and navy leather makes for a handsome travel companion. Because the aesthetics of the bags are so understated and neutral, they can easily pass of as men's bags, which has an interesting masculine feminine appeal.

Lastly, the belts of exotic skins and buckles appear fresh and alluring. Perhaps too thin for guys, but definitely fabulous for ladies.

I love the collection. Hope Phoebe continues to work her magic at Céline. This is a brand to look out for.

Nice bags. Interesting that the handles of the Boston Bag are sort of backwards with the seam on the outside? What do you think?

Oh good eye to pay attention to those details. Chloe bags have that feature:-) maybe Phoebe's old chloe reign influences her work at Cèline:-)

It's very neutral...almost 'genderless' collection.

I'm glad Celine revamped its image. They haven't had good sales recently, and editors and critics have been pretty harsh on the brand's past collections. At least, this time around, they had help from an ex-Chloe person to boost the Celine rhetoric of style.

it seems unisex designs are gaining momentum lately. Is it an androgyny inspired design? Or the fact that unisex can appeal to a broader audience? i really think it's a great idea because both men and women have money! It just so happens that men get caught up with the other midlife expenses. :D

Agreed. I hope the quality is up to snuff! The designs are very classic, yet interesting.
