Below: Ryan Gosling looking so dashing in green with George Clooney...

Ryan Gosling Wears Gucci Suit To His New Movie 'The Ides of March' Premier

Heart throb Indie Flick Actor, Ryan Gosling (my current idol) looked amazingly dashing in his sage green Gucci suit at the premier of his new movie 'The Ides of March' on Tuesday (September 27) in Beverly Hills.

I first blogged about Ryan here in Salvatore Ferragamo. He is becoming a true style icon for us boys. Always impeccably dressed to impress. Beyond good looks (not to mention a 'photoshopped' sculpted hot bod as seen in 'Crazy Stupid Love'), Ryan is equally talented when it comes to acting for the big screens.

It's no surprise big brands like Gucci snagged and dressed Ryan for several occasions. I think I am already smitten by the Gucci sage green suit with a matching stripe tie (a collegiate ivy league flavour)... an atypical colour for men's suiting. The muted green made Ryan Gosling stood out from his fellow gentlemen peers in a sea of blacks and greys. Definitely a must check out colour for this and next season:-)

Below: Pierre Balmain, diffusion line of Balmain gives us a glimpse of their debut collection for SS2012 with a new video starring model Abbey Lee Kershaw...
(Video 1)

Below: Here's Video 2

Diffusion Line: Pierre Balmain SS2012 Collection Video Revealed

The much anticipated lower-priced diffusion line for the exorbitantly expensive Balmain label has revealed their new SS2012 collection video. Pierre Balmain debuts a new film, shot by Inez von Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, and fronted by Abbey Lee Kershaw who wandered about in the film around Brooklyn and Manhattan with her real-life boyfriend, Our Mountain front man, Matthew Hutchinson.

First impressions from the video... with regards to the clothes... Is Pierre Balmain going to be an overpriced Bebe (and that's not a good association) or is it going to stay close to the extravagant rock star feeling of the mainline? We will soon know when the collection pics hits cybersphere after the full presentation on Sunday, 2 Oct during Paris Fashion Week. Meanwhile, enjoy the video... Abbey Lee Kershaw is a true rock chick and so unlike her persona on the runway.

This film is the first in a series of three, with the second film debuting on Friday, September 30, where the Pierre Balmain menswear collection will take the spotlight. (Excited boys?) *UPDATED: Video 2 is up on this post. Check out the clip above!

Below: Japanese designer label, MASTERMINDJapan has collaborated with British luggage maker, Globe Trotter for a series of trunk luggages worthy of any style savvy males...

Below: Street edge vs classic travel... loving the use of camouflage lining and gold tone hardware against black!

MastermindJAPAN x Globe Trotter Trunk

Festive season is coming. End of the year means taking all your annual leave and embarking on your well deserved holiday anywhere in the world. Travel in style is paramount. Especially if you own these gorgeous MastermindJAPAN x Globe Trotter Trunk (a British luggage maker).

Crafted in ink-black "Vulcan Fiber" (a Globe Trotter trademark material) and accented by gold-detailed hardware and cross-buckling leather strap. These are designed to evoke the era of travels from yesteryear, and able to withstand the rumble and tumble of your voyages. MastermindJAPAN's ubiquitous skull-and-crossbones logo adorned the front, lending a touch of street edge. However, what sold me these trunks are the vibrant camouflage lining which adds an unexpected twist to the idea of luxury travel.

The trunks will come in 3 different sizes:
1) 20" in black - $2090
2) 30" in black and camo - $2790
3) 33" in black - $2990

Want it? Good news, these travel companions will be available at Club 21 Men, Four Seasons Hotel, Singapore (Tel: 6304 1386) come October 2011.

Reserve yours today! I hear the 20" calling:-P

Thanks to Hermès, now you have more reasons to adopt this casual easy accessory, without unsightly knots and ill-fitting lengths, but one that is purposely created as a real belt. Get yourself these Hermès Capri Silk Belts crafted with the finest of silk prints and an amazing Etrivière palladium buckle. Below: Watch out for 'mouth-watering' ice cream coloured hues on ready to wear and Mulberry bag favourites next SS2012! I want a 'bite':-P

Mulberry Spring Summer 2012 Womens Collection

Mulberry is hitting the beach for Spring Summer 2012! With an invite in the form of an inflated buoy... you can be sure it's another upbeat and girly-fun collection at the house of Mulberry. Once again, creative director, Emma Hill has been inspired by British themes... this time by the Great British summer and seaside shenanigans; donkey rides, ice-cream on the beach, sparkling pier lights and kiss-me-quick chic. It's referencing back to the quirky English habit of enduring the beach no matter the weather, raincoats and all.

Literally, in a visual way, this is one collection that look delicious enough to be eaten. Eye candy hues inspired by the seaside of Nettle, Fern, Grass, Wheatfield and Ochre sit side by side with 'mouth-watering' Fudge, Marshmallow White, Candy Pink and Lemon Sherbet. I feel like I am devouring an entire selection of flavours from an ice cream parlour just by looking at the collection. These brilliant colours translates from ready to wear pieces to coveted Mulberry bag favourites such as the Bayswater Satchel, Alexa and Lily bags. Watch out for super-cute Teddy Collection featuring teddy rivets and twist-locks adorn Alexa and Lily styles which I am sure you’ll want to add to your closet next season.

Below: A night to remember... Lanvin's Fall Winter 2011 Presentation last evening by Club 21 challenges perceptions of a fashion presentation and raise benchmarks for future events... Applause!
Below: Thru clever use of mirrors, lighting, precise position of props and models... this Lanvin Fashion presentation masterfully blends fashion with art... I feel like I am watching a LIVE art installation. I feel so inspired!

Lanvin Fall Winter 2011 Fashion Presentation: A Most Inspiring Evening

Last evening (15 Sep 2011) was a night to remember. I attend Club 21’s Fall Winter 2011 Lanvin Presentation with no expectations for the unexpected. I was assuming it was just another cocktails and canapé party followed by a big bang catwalk and off we go home after snapshots and flashbulbs bursting.

I was wrong. Behind those heavy velvet curtains and the facade of party moods and flamboyant guests was an experience waiting to change perceptions and challenge conventions. When the time comes to usher the guests into the Hilton Hotel Ballroom, we see nothing of a runway. No seats. No thumping music except classical sounds of violin playing and complete darkness. All of a sudden, a light switched on over one of the 4 showcases within the room and we are immediately presented with an artistic portrait of frenzied objects and beautiful Lanvin-clad models in suspended animation. At first they felt like an art piece, then you realised this was real people and props elevated against gravity. I was thinking, are those models floating? How did they managed to keep the furniture and props in suspension? Wires? No way. The urge for answers strongly beckons.

Only when you step closer... will you realise, thru the clever use of enormous mirrors angled against the backdrop, it reflects the models and props artfully laid on the ground to achieve this impressive effect. The composition was precise. The models positioned at the exact angle. No longer was Lanvin’s Fall Winter collection just mere fashion. The already fabulous pieces have extended beyond and into the artistic territory of a LIVE art installation. Bravo!

Each showcase was a new surprise. From flurry of birds fluttering all around the models to dramatic ascension of classic armchairs and side table to models in a flustered moment of passion... this was the most thought provoking and amazing show I have ever witnessed. All achieved thru ingenuity and models lying on the floor. Fascinating and big applause to Club 21 for a fantastic night of inspirations. This presentation just created a new benchmark on how we will perceive fashion presentations from now on.

Enjoy the many pictures from last night on my facebook fanpage.

Below: 'Slither' away next Spring Summer 2012 with Jil Sander Mens highly outstanding and colourful exotic snakeskin accessories... From bags to shoes, it's everywhere.

Below: Will you wear these coloured python boots and shoes?
Jil Sander Spring Summer 2012 Mens Bags And Accessories

Prada embraced snakeskin in myriad of colours for Fall Winter 2011. Women usually get all the fun with exotics... but it seems these days, men get to play catch up just as fast. For Spring Summer 2012, Jil Sander offers boys a chance to adorn themselves with Raf Simons' imaginative take on our reptilian 'fiend'... sporty bags/pouches and accessories all embellished with a touch of exotics... reborn in the most exciting palette of colours.

The collection is highly visually contrasting and outstanding. Too much or just right? You decide. Those neck pouches will probably see themselves flying off the shelves come next season... as does the python trim trainers or Dr Martens lookalike boots.

Noteworthy too are those tote bags with coloured python contrasted with mesh materials that nicely blend sportive influences with exotic sensibilities. I also noticed an interesting detail, not entirely if it is good or bad... handwritten 'scribbles' on the back of the soles that resemble markings on sample pieces. A raw spin and skewed version of humour on Raf Simons' part?

(More pics on my facebook fanpage. 'LIKE' my fanpage if you enjoy reading this post.) Look out for the collection around March 2012.

Mulberry celebrates the big 4-0 with music and dancing in New York!

Mulberry was high above the city on 12 September for the brand's 40th birthday celebration.

Fresh from celebrating the opening of the new US flagship store on Spring Street, Mulberry continues their New York state of mind thru to their 40th birthday party, held on the rooftop of Skylight West.

Many famous faces graced the evening much to fantastic live music fresh from a new initiative, The Mix Tape Tour which will feature either full or acoustic sets at a series of events covering the UK, Europe, the Far East and America. The night kicked off in spectacular fashion with Kasabian’s performance against a Seventies-style dance floor!

Below: Live music from Kasabian entertained the guests...
The rest of the night was themed as a children’s birthday party (it’s only right to get in touch with your inner child every now and then!) with a balloon artist making animal shapes and balloon hats for guests and of course party bags, complete with 40th Mulberry badges, tags and sticker sheets. Guests also enjoyed nostalgic foodie treats such as cheese and tomato toasties and fairy cakes aplenty.

WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie 'O'Hare' Leather Shopper Tote In Cognac

If you have been searching for a reasonably priced leather bag, roomy and understated with timeless appeal... look no further than Canadian travel accessories brand, WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie.

Founded by TWINS Messrs Dexter and Byron Peart in Montreal in 2006, WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie specialises in bags and accessories, which takes inspirations from the bygone era of elegant travel. Referencing back to mid-century architecture and furniture, the twins created quality timeless pieces that lasts in looks and functionality. Discreetly branded yet distinctive with thoughtful signature detail, that of a bi-colour gold and silver zipper, speak volumes of the designers' understated high taste. Each WANT bag is also affectionately named after a different international airport, further reinforcing the brand's travel roots.

I am now head over heels for this Cognac colour 'O'hare' Shopper Tote. I already own the tote in navy organic cotton (which boast a generous size and savvy design) as part of their tie-up with UK luxury swimwear brand, Orlebar Brown. My MANy Bags Trendspotting #185

Below: New York Fashion Week SS2012 – Boys have cast away frivolous trends and opt for a return to how men used to dress. Sartorial influences are strong...

Below: As does the masculine appeal of workwear...
Back To Classics: Real Style For Real Men

It's time yet again to play 'voyeurism' and take pleasure peeking at street styles during Fashion month. Tommy Ton of Jak and Jil , thru his keen eyes and lens, brings us what style savvy guys are clothing themselves at the shows now. First up, the boys from big apple for New York Fashion Week SS2012. So what's hot and what's not?

From my observation, the lines aren't that define this season. There are no distinct trends like colour blocking for SS2011 or camouflage prints a few seasons ago. But one fundamental thing that I noticed, gone are the days where flamboyant display of radical, 'scene-stealer' dressing hit fashion forefront. The boys are back to where they begin... classic dressing for real men. No more distressed t-shirts that resemble the homeless, spiky embellishments for fetish fans or pointy shoulders for disco diehards. It's referencing back again to the most elegant and basic of mens style: Sartorial influences that bring back the era of well dressed gentlemen and dandies.

Suits and jackets, rolled up trouser hems, pocket squares, bowties, braces, saddle shoes and brogues... all the smart elements that returns an air of refinement in mens dressing.

On the extreme end however, at grassroots level, are workwear influences. Tough boys who toil away at blue collar jobs and demand practical dressing that exemplifies functionality and masculine appeal. Think lumberjacks, truckers, denim, flannel shirts and work boots but reinterpreted with the romance of modern fashionable men.

My Bag Collection #64

Below: Zara shopping find... a gem discovered:-) Meet my new murse... Zara's Python Print Leather Clutch...

Below: Simple and clean design with a large enough size for the guys... Thanks to Kwannam for alerting me to this fab bag on his blog post...
Zara Fall Winter 2011 Yellow Python Print Leather Clutch

Thanks to fellow clutch enthusiast, Kwannam from 'We Could Grow Up Together'... I was made aware of the existence of this Zara Yellow Python Print Leather Clutch from their new Fall Winter 2011 collection. It seems all's fated... as the clutch arrived in Singapore's Zara stores just this Friday... in time for me to get wooed over by Kwannam's blog post. Perfect timing? I reckon so.

This clutch measures 39cm(w) x 24cm(h) with a generous depth of 4.2cm. That means, you can put in quite a fair bit even though this is a clutch bag. Made for women (ladies, there's a gold metal shoulder chain to transform this into a shoulder bag)... but the simple design devoid of frivolous details allows it to be man friendly. I love the size and shape, hence I got it today.

Retailing for SGD259... there's no reason not to. From the convincing python print and savvy yellow colour on 100% real leather to the surprisingly good workmanship and functional size, it's a darn good shopping find.

Below: The clutch is much larger than my Pierre Hardy Cube Print Clutch...

My Shoe Collection #53

Below: My new shoes! Fresh from the delivery man today...

Below: Now I can enjoy some 'wedge-sole' brogues action too...

Comme Des Garçons SHIRT x The Generic Man 'Wingman' Brogues

I blogged about these Comme Des Garçons SHIRT x The Generic Man 'Wingman' Brogues Shoes just last week. Since then, I have been thinking about them all thru last weekend. I am a fan of the classic brogue design made funky with a touch of Rei Kawakubo sensibility and The Generic Man's attention to quality.

The Generic Man is a shoe company based in the LA and embodies an effortless, tasteful direction on men’s luxury footwear. Favoring easy to wear styles and clean, refined lines, The Generic Man shoes possess an elegant simplicity that never compromises on quality or impeccable design. With this collaboration, the resulting shoe design becomes an instant must have for all shoe fans. These shoes may not be as fancy as Prada's Wingtip Wedge Sole Brogues... but they are definitely more wearer-friendly with a lighter body (very light and durable Vibram soles. Used on shoes of Mount Everest climbers) and more casual attitude.

Got my pair from www.my-wardrobe.com since Singapore's Comme Des Garçon store at Hilton Hotel ran out of my size at 41 in brown (reserved for another customer and it's one pair per size). They retail for SGD690 while costing £275 pounds (before UK VAT discount) at my-wardrobe. You do the math. Shoes run slightly small, so I recommend taking a size up.

Somehow I have a feeling these shoes are going to be a hot favourite in due time!

Check out the special collaboration video inspired by the groundbreaking Nouvelle Vague movies of Jean-Luc Godard, most prominently a café scene in his 1967 classic. Very retro cool. After watching, the film affirms my love for the shoes even more.
