No Rain But Shine: Burberry Prorsum Spring Summer 2013 Menswear

Yesterday, Christopher Bailey showed a bold Spring Summer 2013 mens collection for Burberry Prorsum. 'Come rain or shine' was on the show notes... but it was not rain that was brought in.... but high octane 'SHINE' in the form of blinding metallic colours, surprising the audience and wowing the media.

Taking the brand forward yet again... where future meets traditional. The mix of classic menswear pieces of tweeds, wool and garbadine accented with visionary use of metallic colours and materials spices up the conservative pieces... letting any guy display his forward sense of style without compromising his time-tested looks.

Bomber jackets, slim trousers, trenches, cardigans and sweaters come in all shades of metallic hues and cleverly woven with a strong Burberry flavour, eclectic and fun. I especially love the metallic half lapels on coats. Watch out too for the accessories, metallic croc iPad cases, tote bags and birkenstock lookalike sandals (with socks!). All those 'shimmery' pieces seem to be gearing up to outshine any competitors and ceorce your consumer dollars. No wonder most of the looks are paired with sunglasses... It's truly a mesmersing Burberry season yet again.

Women love their florals. Men usually shy away from them. But this spring summer season where prints and patterns are running amok in the fashion scene, even guys are adopting flower patterns for a flair of summer.

Spotted at the currently happening Pitti Inmagine Uomo SS2013... this guy makes floral prints look desirable and perfectly on trend:-) I love how the printed blazer adds a dapper touch that evokes a softer and spontaneous side of a guy. La Dolce Vita as the Italians put it...the sweet side of life:-) Contrasted with a smart sartorial style, it's about a guy who celebrates his life and not shy to look the part.

A peek Into Brad Goreski's Home By The Coveteur

We all know who Mr 'mighty cute' Brad Goreski is. But have you wondered beyond all his cheeky personality and impeccable taste in style... what do you imagine his home would be like?

Well, wait no further... The Coveteur (one of my favourite blogs) just got an all access pass to Mr Brad's home with his boyfriend Gary in Hollywood Hills. Surprisingly, no Leopard skins and aplenty studs, pink feather boas nor 'Charlie and the chocolate factory' setup...

What's present in the amazing home, are masculine, retro chic furnishings... tastefully decorated, a wonderful pool and a closet that will induce the envy out of every guy. From Christian Louboutins to YSL to Black Fleece... all the dapper and fun brands are up for picks.

Boys... are you ready for more Christian Louboutin mania? The inventory for those acclaimed red soles has just expanded again....

Here's 3 of the designs which caught my eye... (From top to bottom)

1) Louis Mens Flats in Metallic Leopard Lame (USD795)

Stylish and extremely comfortable-our sneakers have a huge following and not without reason. This version of our classic "Louis," finished in metallic leopard lame, is far from classic. Lace into this sneaker and you'll instantly morph into an animal of the night.

2) Rollerboy Spikes in Anthracite Flannel (USD1295)

"Rollerboy" is so aggressive that it has been seen by some as a threat to national security. Be a step above the rest with this new unusual Flannel loafer.

3) Rollerboat Tartan (USD1095)
"Roller-Boat" could be considered the more casual version of the iconic "Rollerboy Spikes" loafer. Historically tartan was used to define your clan. This spike covered tartan may not be associated to any specific region, but the red sole flashing behind you will show you're part of the Louboutin clan.

Givenchy Pre-Spring 2012 Menswear

I love pre-season collections. Designs created ahead of the prime seasonal collections to allow for transition to a new season. Pre-season designs are usually more wearable while giving a hint of what’s to come. Sometimes they can even be more exciting than what will be presented on the runways a few months later...

For Givenchy’s pre-spring 2013 menswear, such is the case. We are introduced to an entirely new set of prints, this time featuring propeller planes (military types, I presume) against an intricate background of paisley prints. Set in forest green tones, this new pattern adds on to the already heated craze for Givenchy’s statement making prints. Roitweiler, menacing Sharks, Pin-up girls and Birds of Paradise have all taken on well with the boys, so I forsee this fighter plane motif to be another sell-out! I definitely want that shirt and clutch bag with this new print.

Riccardo Tisci also continues to contradict his aesthetics with masculine sportive and gothic styles against soft feminine touches of pastel pinks and man skirts. It’s this interesting dichotomy of masculine vs. feminine, altar boys vs. bad boy style that gave Givenchy it’s stand out personality. I am a fan of all the highly wearable pieces and most of all, the colour palette. Olive greens and reds with pink... How oddly charming? Not to forget those kick-ass gladiator sandals which will send all the boys crazy.

Sale season is now going full steam ahead with more and more stores marking down their Spring Summer 2012 merchandise. But to pick the best deals... be like me and start looking out for deals online. Not only do you avoid blatant markups from local stores, but the range of brands you can find are limit only by your online resourcefulness. I know some might prefer the brick and mortar shops where you can try sizes and inspect the goods physically. But if you have been loyal to a certain brands, then you will understand their measurements and give you a good idea on sizing and quality. However, if all else fails, go to the stores to have a look at the real thing, compare pricing and try them on to make a better decision. But generally, online shopping is as pleasurable if not more addictive then actual shopping. I love paying European prices and during sales, the markdowns from international sites are always much more generous than Singapore retailers.

There is something so mysteriously alluring about the colour black. Designs featuring all-black colour exudes a different level of attraction and sophistication. Hermès offered their 'So-black' limited edition series to much acclaim, while Comme Des Garçons' 'Very Black' accessories are highly sought after.

Christian Louboutin may not be a stranger to all black designs, having launched black spikes for their Rollerballs and Louis shoes...but it is this pair of newly launched all-black spikes Freddy Flats that can't stop my jaws from dropping. Perhaps it is the derby-style design, more proper and formal, given a rock edge twist with spikes of tone on tone black, that provides the best example of formal vs edgy cool. Simply stunning in my books... so go grab a pair while you can!

Burberry Prorsum Fall Winter 2012 Fox Print Stripe Shirt

If I have to name a piece of Fall Winter 2012 fashion piece that I most wanted... it will be Burberry Prorsum's Fox Print Stripe shirt as seen on the runway a few months back. Ever since spotting the whimsical printed shirt, I have moved it to a must have list for the upcoming new season. It's iconic, fun and has a very interesting graphic illustration of a fox head that will get everyone talking:-) Neither too brash or meek, it has just the right panache to make you stand out without screaming your head off.

Seen on Taiwanese celebrity and heartthrob, Sunny Wang during Burberry's recent Taipei Flagship store opening... I am now even more convinced I need this shirt. Good news... Luisaviaroma has already put up this shirt for pre-order at €409.09 (For orders to Singapore). So hurry, sizes and quantity are limited. This shirt will simply fly off the shelves even before the shipment date arrives (latest by 30 September). Yes, it's a long wait to commit that payment... but it will be well worth the wait knowing you are guaranteed a piece of this shirt!

One of my style idols, David Thielebeule (Allure Magazine Accessories Director) is a true fashion chameleon. Sartorially smart, street grunge or casual chic, this guy pulls off all looks! I also adore his choice of bags and accessories, often surprising and inspiring.

Here he is seen with my favourite bag of all time, Céline SS2011 Leather Cabas in Burgundy Croc Embossed Leather... juxtaposing perfectly with his navy blazer and denim shirt. The crimson tone bag pops with a touch of luxurious croc texture:-) Loved it.

Spotted: Coach x Hugo Guinness Reversible Canvas Tote

Coach has now become my turned to brand for cool urban mens bags. Functionality and aesthetically pleasing designs makes for a formidable work to play transition for busy urban boys.

Now with London born, New York based artist, Hugo Guinness’s eclectic linoleum cut prints adorning Coach’s Bleecker Reversible tote (among a whole range of small accessories),  I am convinced I need one soon. However, after seeing the tote as carried by the guy in the pic above, I immediately move my urgency of getting this tote to the front of the queue.

I love the linoleum prints featuring snippets of New York city life... from takeaway coffee cups to boxing dudes to house keys and more... It’s not just a bag that you are carrying now... it’s a piece of urban art and culture that adds more personality to you. Carry it for work or play, Coach x Hugo Guinness bags and accessories range definitely looked handsome while being functional for the big city. Mustard and black colour combination also gets a thumbs for injecting a modern New York attitude.
