The Runway Sniper #48

Below: Balmain Homme Fall Winter 2010 is back again with distressed tees, biker jeans and boots style... at least this season the models presenting the clothes look less dorky than last season's...

Balmain Homme Fall Winter 2010

Yet again, an evolutionary collection rather than revolutionary. Christophe Decarnin plays it safe one more time (yawn...) with predictable biker jeans, boots, distressed tees, blazers, biker jackets and so on. Looks like he had too little time on his hands for menswear and thought, why not take out the rejected designs from 2 seasons ago and just sent them down the runway!

I am disappointed. Not that the pieces are bad... they are very wearable. A certain nonchalant, bad boy style which got everyone crazy, that is of course after the appeal of wearing something that not everyone can afford. (I cannot imagine the lower priced blue label eroding this novelty). I just wished Balmain Homme can move the collections at least a few steps forward and not in tiny strides. If this continues, I wonder how many people will want to keep stocking up on the same (or maybe slightly different) pieces that are already existing in their wardrobe.

I love Balmain. But I just cannot justify purchasing the same thing season after season.

What say you guys?

I agree. Same old thing over and over again. Just boring. Nothing special about looks even though jeans still look great. Pics you posted the 4th look is simple the best in my opinion.

Chris, it's time to move on! Design and create something that is worth of those prices (for men)!

Notice how Lanvin men has also this slightly repetitive themes syndrome, but yet it's got more character than Balmain?
But I do like the Balmain men's looks which I think in these recurring themes definitely have more evergren appeal than all of the women's collection put together — But I think that's the difference between mens and women's to start with. Menswear never needs to try too hard or break too many bounderies — well, sometimes. But really, it's the sinful price point that's the source or our questions and criticisms I think because "street cred" shouldn't be earned from having to spend so much money on a pair of tattered jeans or skinny jacket.
And truth be told that if this grunge god/model-off-duty look continues for Balmain Homme, I don't think it will have what it takes to remain at the top in the Paris fashion arena, be it on the runway or on the street.

Totally agree with what you said Sharon.

"it's the sinful price point that's the source or our questions and criticisms I think because "street cred" shouldn't be earned from having to spend so much money on a pair of tattered jeans or skinny jacket. "

Spot on for this comment!:-)

And Anony, yes, the jeans are the items that catches everyone's fancy. The clothing style can easily be mixed and matched with other labels or your existing wardrobe:-P

Agree with you Kevin, I wasn't impress with the Homme collection since it was first released. If without BALMAIN label, I'd have thought they were from ZARA (which soon they will be.) Anyway, I like the look in pic #1 though.

If it's any consolation, you can be assured that you're getting your money's worth if these Balmain clothes have quality workmanship and never go out of style/season as quickly as the IT pieces!

this looks like it came straight out of Gap. replace the biker denim with a classic straight leg, and you've got Gap.
