Below: Céline's neutral shades in Black or whites are perfect to accent the colours in her pre-fall 2011 collection. Fur goes so well with tweeds, plaids and wools...

Below: I am definitely getting one to hook on to the clutches come next Fall Winter 2011...

A Tale Of The Furry Tails...

Over the past few seasons I have noticed the rise of the 'furry tail' bag charms in fashion. Often than not, they become highly coveted 'pets'... a cuddly companion to accompany your beloved arm candies. These 'touch-inducing' bag accessory can be traced all the way back to Fall Winter 2007 (all thanks to Gucci's Frida Giannini) as a smaller version endearingly hooked onto the bags at Gucci's Fall Winter 2007 mens collection. What a touch of winter luxe that sends me all the way to Paris to hunt one down for myself.

Below: I first notice our 'furry friends' debuting in Gucci's Fall Winter 2007 mens collection... smaller in size and in shades of brown to mimick the 'tails' of the racoon...

Fast forward to Spring Summer 2010, the full glory of these furry tails exploded into fashion stardom (not to mention collector's frenzy) with Louis Vuitton's multi-coloured and 'bank account' draining versions, bigger and better! I hear many were disappointed as these LV furry tails were some of the hardest to track down then. Demand was overwhelming despite their astronomical price tags.

Below: Louis Vuitton took these little 'furry cuties' to fashion stardom in Spring Summer 2010, multiplying them in size, splashing them in hot pinks and greens! Everyone wants them!

If anyone misses out on these charming furries, Fret not...

There is light at the end of the 'fashion tunnel'... Our furry tail friends are back with another 'season of vengeance'. Thanks to Phoebe Philo who proposes these furry bag charms as a key accessory for her Céline Pre-fall 2011 collection. A must-have in the collection that is seen on every look, fashionably attached to Céline's delectable clutches and bags. Call it a new level of minimalist luxe. I adore her black and white pared down interpretations.

I am signing up for one right this moment... anyone else joining me?:-P Winter 2011 please come fast!!!

Below: You were once the 'IT' boy of Gucci's Ad Campaigns...
such as this Fall Winter 2007 series which made me become your fan...

Mat Gordon - From 'Glamourous' Gucci To 'Cheesy' Desigual?

Why are you doing this to yourself Mat?!?!? You used to be one of my favourite male models, especially after seeing your beautiful shots in a several Gucci's ad campaigns. And now, you went and did this series of awkard looking shots for Desigual? Just look at that ultra cheesy, not to mention sleazy picture of you with nothing but the bags. Yikes, that 'lecherous' grin on the face, what were you thinking? 'Tsk tsk'...I hope you are not 'murdering' your own career...

Check out more shots of Mat Gordon's Desigual appearance here. What do you guys think? 'Ooohlala' or 'Yeeeeks'?

Gender Bender #42

Louis Vuitton Limelight Clutch GM

I was re-watching Sex and The City Movie over the past 2 days, yes, it is a chick movie, but I enjoyed the show nonetheless. The movie embodies not just glamourous fashion and people, it also builds upon the theme of friendship and love.

Of course, all the witty dialogue which makes you laugh is very entertaining.

Beyond enjoying the storyline, I caught sight of Carrie carrying the very fabulous Louis Vuitton Limelight Clutch GM. In my clutch frenzy phrase now, I cannot help but slowly fallen in love with this 'huge purse'! Oh gosh, it's definitely understated glam, especially for the black one that I saw on Louis Vuitton's website. A guy can pull it off with the right look!

As these are limited edition, I wonder how tough it is to secure one now. Darn, I am a 'late' LV limited edition bloomer. Those graffiti pieces are kinda disappointing now...(for the time being in my books) since I see tonnes of those lying around the store. The novelty of owning them is greatly reduced. I would love to own this more limited edition Limelight clutch...simply beautiful!

My Bag Collection #28

Paul and Joe Black Leather And Grey Herringbone Wool Fabric Bag

How time flies, it will be almost a year since I was in Paris having a most wonderful holiday last Aug. Did visits to the very beautiful countryside of Noyant, stayed in the most beautiful restored Mill (My room was where Barbara Streisand stayed in! Oh wow!) and even had a quick 24-hour visit to London. Well, I have my friend to thank, for planning that special vacation. And of course, that was a trip where I also did lots of shopping in Paris, I felt like a million dollars dressed in nice/more formal designer gear with hands full of shopping bags. My mind still retains that lovely memory as if that was yesterday.

This was a purchase from that trip, a trip where I brought 3 bags home from the lovely french city. I cannot believe I did that. 3 huge bags is not easy to bring back during travelling. One of the Jil Sander metallic leather bag was a mistake which till this day I still regret, but this Paul and Joe bag remains in my good books. I have not used this bag yet as the wool fabric makes this a very fall winter bag. I will bring this bag out for a run of its money once fall winter 2008/2009 comes into play.

I love the gray herringbone wool fabric which is reminiscent of what you see on wool coats. Very dapper! And the soft leather is light weight and features interesting 'mesh' studs on the handles. I also love the option of being able to carry it by hand or sling it on the shoulders. This will make a perfect laptop or soft briefcase. It goes well with formal looks such as a nice fitted jacket. I tried this on at Galeries LaFayette in paris while wearing my Marni jacket and instantly I was sold. After making my rounds to the other stores, I had to come back to buy this bag. It just would not leave my mind.:-)

I found out later when I get back to Singapore, that Club 21 stocks this bag as well. It retails for SGD $869. So I did get a better deal after my tax refund and the usual lower pricing in Europe.

With winter season coming, this bag will be most appropriate for my winter travels:-)

Retail price: Euro $350. Where to buy: Galeries LaFayette in Paris

My Bag Collection #24

Jil Sander Patent Metallic Leather Travel Bag in Copper (THROW AWAY: BAD QUALITY)

Fall Winter 2007 was a season of metallic colours. Metallic colours were all over, in shoes, in clothes, and of course, in bags as well. Metallic colours first started off in women's collections but slowly officially filter down big time into the male gender in fall winter 2007. As an avid follower of fashion trends, I picked up on the metallic hit as soon as I saw the runway looks for that season.

So while I was travelling in Paris last August, I had already planned to scout around and see if I can pick up some interesting metallic coloured items to bring home to Singapore. I was not disappointed. As a fashion capital of the world, Paris stocks up the trend very quickly and I easily spot metallic colours in all forms in the shops. I got a silver Dolce Gabbana belt and this Jil Sander travel bag in copper.

When I first lay eyes on this travel bag, I fell in love with it. Copper was not a common metallic colour, much less patent metallic leather bags. I thought to myself I will be a trendsetter to be seen with this bag in Singapore. But I left the Jil Sander boutique in Avenue Montaigne empty handed as the bag comes with a hefty price tag and I was torn over Bottega Veneta patent captoe shoes and Gucci green checks shirt(which I eventually got when I get back to Singapore).

That day was a fine day of shopping, had already bag 2 new bags, one from Bottega Veneta and one from Paul and Joe, so buying a third bag was making me feel guilty. And I worry about the problem of transporting the bag home. But the bag kept lingering in my mind and I decided to have a second look the next day.

Maybe there was some fore sign to tell me I should have not bought the bag that fateful 10 Aug 2007. My fren whom I was visiting in Paris got upset cos I miss meeting him for lunch at Etienne Marcel. I felt so bad cos I wonder off to Avenue Montaigne for a second look at this Jil Sander bag. I already lost a lot of shopping zest since I felt I let my fren down. He put down his work to meet me for lunch and I miss out on that. Nevertheless, some strange force got me to Jil Sander store again. I was hoping to put my heart to rest and forget about the bag after trying it the second time. The salesman that served me the day before was not around and I thought, great....at least I can try the bag in peace and not worry about salesman pressures. However, when I was about to convince myself I dun need the bag, cos' it was too big, that salesman appeared out of nowhere and he recognised me. Worst of all, I had ketchup stains on my Marni jacket sleeve and look more 'disoriented' due to my incident with my fren. He begin to tell me this bag was runway item and one of a kind. very rare and blah blah blah...all those sales talk. My clear mind got cluttered and I foolishly succumb to his temptations and bought the bag. :-(

And because of that, I blew my shopping budget and cannot buy any more items from Paris. My woes do not end there. It started when I had to get this bag back to Singapore. As patent leather is very prone to creasing, I had to be extra careful about transporting the bag. I finally thought the best way was to hand carry the bag. In my cramped economy class seat, I had to slot this bag inbetween my legs for 14 hours. However, no matter how careful I am, I still managed to reach Singapore with my bag in not so perfect shape. I got creases onto the patent leather even before I started using it. It was frustrating. That was one flight I would vow never to experience again. Thai airways was lenient enough to let me have the bag with me by my seat, but other airlines would probably ask me to leave it on the overhead compartment, which will be detrimental to the bag.

So after using the bag once, I found the bag too cumbersome, too high maintenance and the condition and feeling of using it, is just not pristine anymore after what i have been thru. Now this bag sits as a white elephant in my room keeping my Marc by Marc Jacobs bag safe(bag in bag is the most space saving way of storing bags).

The final blow to my disappointment in this bag is when I found out Club 21 Men's stock the silver version (as well as the timeless black leather version) and I could have gotten that at a cheaper price without the hassles and troubles.

I vow never to buy big bags while travelling, especially those in patent metallic leather.

Retail price: Euro $1450. Where to buy: Jil Sander Boutique at Avenue Montaigne, Paris

My Bag Collection #16

Bottega Veneta 'Stitched' Details Canvas Bag (SOLD)

Another Bottega Veneta possession:-) which I am very proud of. Singapore Bottega Veneta boutiques do not stock the canvas range, until recently...a small selection. So while I was on holiday in Paris, I took the opportunity to try to get something from the stores there. This is what I end up with on my very happy day of french shopping:-) I remembered I was looking very sharp with my very fitted Marni Jacket, Dolce Gabbana Jeans and Miu Miu leather brogues, (whose sole disintegrates after prolong safe keeping:-(...so apparently it did not survived paris) and trot down Rue Saint Honore, one of the shopping districts of high end stores.

At the 2 storey boutique, I was impressed by the wide selection, have never seen such a complete selection. Of course I was really careful when I ask to check out the bags in the store. No intrecciato weave bags, that's way out of my budget. Even the leather ones are also over the top in price. Fortunately, I spotted this beautiful BIG canvas bag on the lower shelf. I was expecting it to be ridiculously priced, but to my pleasant surprise, it costs a mere Euro $780. With tax refund, I would pay an even lower price. The canvas is of an exceptional quality, in a classy olive green colour. There were leather trimmings over the zipper top, and pockets (At first, I thought they were croc leather. But no..it's some aged effect on the leather). Everything was in perfect combination. Metal studs on the base protects the bag as well.

If I were to buy it at the boutiques in Singapore, I will pay SGD $2050, as reflected on their website. It is ridiculous to pay so much more. So now I am a happy man.

Retail price: Euro $780. Where to buy: Bottega Veneta Boutique at Rue Saint Honore, Paris

My Shoe Collection #03

Dolce Gabbana Gold Patent Leather Loafers

Fall Winter 2007 was the season of metallic colours for men. Hence, when I saw this pair of metallic gold loafers at Dolce Gabbana..I wanted to get them. The gold has a glitter texture and is coated with shiny laminate surface that makes it look like patent leather. With a leather sole and shiny gold and silver DG hardware across the top.

Gorgeous for bermudas and I have not worn this yet...but just in time for spring 2008.

Retail price: SGD $969. Where to buy: Dolce Gabbana Boutique at Hilton Hotel
