Sweatshirt Frenzy For Fall Winter 2013: Kenzo, Givenchy And More!

Below: Sweatshirt frenzy continues for Fall Winter 2013... what was once a garment reserved for sports, it's now a major fashion statement... Thanks to Givenchy and Kenzo who propelled Sweatshirts to fashion stardom with their eye catching prints and colours.
Below: Brands are realising the unstoppable appeal of sweatshirts... so look out for more options to appeal to different tastes... From Carven's Michael Wolf photo print to Ami's rustic Bear heads... there's one for everyone:-)
The Unstoppable Sweatshirt Frenzy: Givenchy, Kenzo And More!

What was once reserved for the sporting arena or the gym... is a now huge fashion star. Yes, I am talking about the much frenzied Sweatshirt. Thanks to Givenchy and Kenzo, 2 of the pioneers who put this once boring and unsightly garment into the fashion forefront. Credit goes to them for their bold colours and eye catching prints such as the Tiger and Rottweiler. Now everyone wants a piece of the sweatshirt action. They sell out fast and often do not even last till the sales. Guys also find more wear in sweatshirts than high maintenance wools, making them a useful and wearable piece to add to their wardrobe.

Relatively low cost and easy to manufacture, brands understood the potential of this money making fashion phenomenon. So for Fall Winter 2013, look out for many more options if you are just getting into the sweatshirt showdown. French label, Ami has a quirky bear head design and Carven featured a graphic antler and Michaeal Wolf photographic print for theirs. Balenciaga continues their Sci-Fi Egyptian antics while fast rising Italian brand MSGM churns out the most eye catching quilted florals and abstract camouflage prints. Of course, veteran Givenchy and Kenzo are still unstoppable as leaders in sweatshirt designs. Doberman prints ensure sell out for Givenchy while Tiger heads, funky eyes and cloud prints continue to appeal for Kenzo.

Below: Kenzo is still the undisputed leader in sweater shirt designs... for Fall Winter 2013, look out for Eye icons, Tiger heads and cool Cloud pattern:-P

Below: Fast rising Italian label, MSGM has amazing quilted florals and camo prints while Balenciaga proposed Sci-fi Egyptian motifs. McQ (Alexander McQueen)'s swallow print versions are just as fun:-)

Which sweatshirts are you ready to adopt for this Fall Winter 2013? Just in time to keep you warm and toasty while making a fashion statement for the new season!

The Material Boy #586

Below: Carven and Japanese accessories label, Porter has collaborated for a collection of functional and chic bags that embodies the best of French style and Japanese know-how... Love this botanical print version... Very summer cool!

Carven x Porter Collaboration Backpacks For Spring Summer 2013

Carven menswear has made french cool accessible and wearable. It is no surprise they are ramping up their accessories line to keep up with their highly successful ready to wear collection. For Spring Summer 2013, the brand has collaborated with Japanese accessories label, Porter for functional and chic backpacks that take their easy wearable aesthetics to a new level.

Combining Japanese know-how and french sense of style, these backpacks are not your conventional designs. Carven and Porter used an interesting mix of materials and textures, from quilted nylon to tweeds to printed botanical prints to evoke schoolboy charm while staying functional. The multiple exterior pockets, the no frills detailings are testament to this.

The backpacks features a buckle fastening front flap, fabric adjustable back straps with a matching top handle. There's a drawstring closure to secure your belongings while quilted fabric lining on the insides in bright accent colour that make the bag visually exciting inside and out.

I want the botanical printed version as featured in the lookbook (Euro653)!

The Material Boy #567

Below: My summer wishlist... from my favourite brand of the moment... Carven. This Botanical Encyclopedia Print shirt is the brand's 'geeky' spin on summer florals. Bright and cheery and ready for summer:-)
Carven Spring Summer 2013 Mens 'Botanical' Encyclopedia Print Shirt

Florals are synonymous with Spring Summer season. But in menswear, flowery designs tread a thin line between flamboyant feminine and charming masculine. That is unless you are Carven:-P The brand’s Spring Summer 2013 Mens Collection managed to bridge that male floral taboo. Their latest menswear pieces come with a ‘geeky’ take on summer florals. Designer, Guillaume Henry extracted botanical illustrations right out of the encyclopedia and transferred them into playful, whimsical prints on his Spring Summer 2013 mens pieces. Geek chic and boyish charm are now elevated to desirable levels minus the girly factor.

I can’t wait to get my hands on the Botanicals Print Shirt or the matching shorts and jacket. Even the embroidered floral sweatshirt ain’t too shabby either. Perfect for layering on top of the shirt. I guess many of my fellow fashion ‘geeks’ agreed too, because the sweat shirt is now sold out in many online stores. Once bitten twice shy.... I may have missed out on getting the sweatshirt while I had my chance, I am definitely not going to miss out on the botanicals print shirt now. After some research, the shirt is now available for pre-order at €306.00 (Vat incl.) at Italian retailer, Railso. But their shipping costs to Singapore is a hefty €80.00 (Yikes!) which means I have to do my search elsewhere. Wish me luck!

Below: I love this look. The floral embroidered floral sweatshirt is perfect for layering on top of the shirt:-P

My Shopping Conquests #129

Below: The brand to watch out for SS2012... Carven SS2012 Menswear exudes boyish charms and refreshes with new proportions:-)

Below: Those colourful leather pocket protectors is a key accent to create those boyish schoolboy looks... I had to had one:-)

Back To School With Carven Spring Summer 2012 Mens

Perhaps it's age catching up or the eternal pursuit of all things youthful and beautiful... Carven's SS2012 menswear have resonated with many new male fans, me included, with their debut menswear.

Guillaume Henry has done a nostalgic take on his version of the Carven man, something that is both charming and fresh, yet playful with a french attitude. These are clothes what your brother will wear or perhaps you would too if you have not 'outgrown' them physically. Cropped proportions, preppy blazers and slightly flared shorts in vibrant hues all make up the boyish appeal. One of the key accents in many looks were this very special leather pocket protectors that appeared on pockets of shirts and blazers, something little boys wear to shield their clothes from pen stains. But done in Carven's way, it creates a sartorial flair by way of colour and interesting styling... I love it!

Below: The pocket protectors comes in many colours and are featured prominently in Carven's SS2012 lookbook...

Hence, I got mine today in a nice tan brown at Club 21 Mens, Four Seasons Hotel today. It was the only piece brought in... but you can order them at www.ssense.com or www.farfetch.com if keen.

Can't wait to put this on and get regressed to adolescence.
