Salvatore Ferragamo Fall Winter 2014 Mens Advertising Campaign By Mert & Marcus

The perfect balance between nature and humanity. Harmony and emblematic simplicity, the sine qua non of silent story-telling as captured by Mert & Marcus while exploiting clear daylight against a dark background that emphasizes the notion of being suspended in time. This is Salvatore Ferragamo’s latest Fall Winter 2014 mens advertising imagery.

The mens collection was inspired by creative director, Massimiliano Giornetti’s collection of rugs. It may seemed like a mundane and unusual source of inspiration, but the designer reckons homespun textures enables him to explore a 3-D study of fabric. “After exploring the idea of frenetic life in big cities,” he said, “I wanted something more intimate.”

The motifs that ran across coats, jackets, and suits—stripes, woven threads, and even abstract kilims—were borrowed from rugs and blankets, but like their inspirations, they’re only half appreciated by sight alone. These clothes looked designed to be touched. (Click here to view the runway images)

I love the homage to cosier themes, where the clothes now lived a more intimate reality, making them that much more relevant to the regular guy. The striped coats inspired by vintage military designs were a thumbs up for me. The multi-tier orange/blue coat and the brown with striped collar and hem details are my favourites for the season. Gorgeous winter protection that deviates from the predictable monochrome palette.

Salvatore Ferragamo has definitely taken the right steps to make the brand more contemporary and appealing to the younger fashion forward guy. Give me those coats anyday for the coming fall season. I will find a reason to immerse in winter climates outside of Singapore for sure:-P

Salvatore Ferragamo Spring Summer 2013 Mens Colour Block Trainers

Salvatore Ferragamo complete caught me off guard with their latest Spring Summer 2013 collection. Known for its subtle luxury of classic footwear, colours are the least expected... especially when they reek of bold saturated colours reminiscent of David Hockney’s Pop Art landscape.

Expect bright sorbets, citrus and sky blues contrasted with pastels that makes the collection a visual delight. What most garner my attention are those colourblock trainers in the most acid fuelled of colours... striking vermilion vs mint greens, yellows contrasting against greys and whites... the combinations are vivid and exciting.

In this Spring Summer 2013 where trainers leads the mens footwear trend, Salvatore Ferragamo's creative director, Massimiliano Giornetti has hit a bulls eye and successfully blurred the lines between tailoring and technical styles.

'Sleeping' Hunks... Sleepwear Inspired Style

At the recent 64th Annual Cannes Film Festival, there were many memorable fashion moments from the glamourous guests. But there were many more disastrous clothing mishaps. However, there is one male actor that stays on top of his fashion game and I am giving him a thumbs up for being consistently appropriately attired with highly savvy choice of dressing throughout his stay. That guy is Canadian actor Ryan Gosling. His choice of fashion brand to wear... Salvatore Ferragamo. Unexpected choice since Ferragamo is never on top of your mind of celebrity fashion choices. But because of Ryan, I am now giving the brand's Spring Summer 2011 collection a different look. I love Ryan's navy top as featured in the pic above. A Pajamas meets sartorial design that came from the SS2011 runway. Ryan wore it aptly for his photocall of his new movie 'Drive'. Very nonchalant while staying subtly sexy in a tasteful way. There is just something about sleepwear in daytime that gives that vibe. I love the idea.

Below: As seen on the Spring Summer 2011 Salvatore Ferragamo Mens Runway... The model looked so comfortable:-) Nice roomy pinstripe pajamas pants with linen Double Breasted jacket... Sleeping beauty will definitely approve this look!

Then I came across an editorial shot in Elle Mexico featuring super hot male model Tyson Ballou wearing the same shirt with the entire runway look. This affirms my new found fascination with 'sleepwear' as daywear on guys. The relaxed attitude combined with a quiet seductive allure makes guys who can pull off this look highly desirable.

What are your thoughts on this look? Sloppy or simply sexy?

And who wears the look better... Ryan or Tyson? For me, I'd take both guys any day!

Guys: It's Time For 'Booty' Call!

Oh no! Not that kind of 'call', what were you thinking?!?! This is a PG13 blog!

Yes, I am talking about the major influx of boots in all manners for guys this Fall Winter 2010 season. From riding boots, dressy boots, military boots, biker boots to hiking boots... you name it, you got it. My favourite are those gorgeous tall boots with shearling lining from Burberry Prorsum (retails for USD795) and Kris Van Assche's modern take on the military boot.

So what are you waiting for? 'Booty' calls!

Salvatore Ferragamo White Suede Belt With Antiqued Silver Knurled "Gancino" Buckle

Wow...quite a mouthful to describe my new purchase, what can you expect when the brand name is also as lengthy:-) My first foray into Salvatore Ferragamo. I have always feel this brand has a more business and mature style which I am not suitable for. But lately, the brand seems to be getting younger with their designs and it's a good balance of classic and contemporary. So after the frantic crowd when their sales in Singapore commences last weekend, I finally decided to drop by the store to see what is left. Surprisingly, there is a quite a huge selection left for mens. I spotted a few items that I would love to buy...but do not need. So I passed sadly...

Worthy of mention nonetheless are a pair of tri-coloured boat shoes in blue, a croc skin loafers in camel (Over SGD $2000...but so divine to behold), and of course some nice belts in their signature "Gancino" buckle. I had a choice between 2 white belts which I love, because of the knurled texture on the antique silver buckle. It gives a intricate ornate touch that shows delicate craftsmanship. There is a broader textured leather version (SGD $360 after a 35% discount) and a slim suede version (now SGD $240 from SGD $370). I tried on both and found the broader version too overpowering, although I love the leather. In the end, I chose this White Suede Belt With Antiqued Silver Knurled "Gancino" Buckle as it looks more elegant, perfect for pairing with shots and getting ready to hitch a boat ride to St Tropez:-P

I love St Tropez, my dream destination....soon...I shall set foot on thy shores.
