Balenciaga Mens Traveller Backpack

Balenciaga's highly recognisable Arena bags have been a success with bag fans and continues as a classic range for the avant garde fashion house. It may have lost much of its appeal these days but the brand have started to update and apply the signature details to popular bag styles to stay relevant. Since mens backpacks are emptying out pockets for fashion fans everywhere, Balenciaga have also started to introduce their own spin on this popular bag style. Enter the ‘Traveller Backpack’. Balenciaga’s Traveller backpack comes in 2 sizes (small and large) bearing the signature palladium studs, leather tab zipper pulls and constructed in soft crafted vintage lambskin. They will be offered in current seasonal hues which fans have always love collecting. With a snap buckle top flap, front zip pockets and a drawstring inside closure, the roomy Traveller backpack (as the name suggests) makes for a good summer vacation companion.  For extra capacity, the large size version allows for an addition zip compartment at the base, perfect for sandals and shoes.

Will you still be interested in Balenciaga’s designs although offered in a highly popular backpack format? To me, perhaps a lower price point will get me on board. The pricing of USD1615 and USD1785 for small and large sizes respectively seem a little excessive for a weary design that seemingly passed its glory day. But I am sure some fans will disagree with me.

Issey Miyake Bao Bao C Series Mens Clutch Bag

Issey Miyake Bao Bao C Series Mens Clutch Bag

I have blogged about Issey Miyake’s C-Series Mens Hiker Backpack which was an innovative design, unique to the brand. Today while I was browsing online for inspirations at the current Paris Mens Fashion Week, I spotted this pic of a guy carrying yet another incredible Bao Bao design. This time, I am having another bag obsession over the Bao Bao C-Series Mens Clutch Bag. A fold over type of closure, this one is roomy and can store tablets, wallets and much more (Some clutches are so tight on space, they are practically useless. So this one passes my criteria of holding aplenty:-P)

Definitely a versatile piece to own if you are all for interesting innovative designs. I love that the clutch bag measures 8.5 inches (Height), 15 inches (Width) making it proportionally perfect for guys, and not look awkward nor too dainty

The unique and signature angular construct is something to admire as a design ingenuity, testament to Japanese designers forward creative vision. A must have in my opinion... especially at USD310! Comes in a variety of colours and finishes. But the matte black version will be my pick.

Proenza Schouler PS1 Backpack

New year new start. Looking for a new bag to begin afresh for 2015? Here’s my first pick for the new year.

If you have been a Proenza Schouler PS1 bag fan, good news. The iconic PS1 bag now gets a new backpack cousin. Yes, just in time for the backpack craze that gets every brand hopping on the queue to offer their own spin. Not all are successful, but in my opinion, this Proenza Schouler PS1 Backpack gets a thumbs up. Inheriting the iconic styling (from hardware, to flap closure to front pockets), the PS1 backpack is instantly recognisable without blatant branding. That is a plus! No true fashionista need be a walking signboard for any brand. The hardware for PS1, especially the metal buckle has been one of my favourite designs. It is distinctive and yet carries a bit of that industrial street edge, done polished or brushed finishing. So the bag is perfect to glam up or dress down. It is a versatile ‘everyday’ bag design.

The PS1 backpack comes in 2 sizes. The regular version measures 11.5” (29.21cm) length, 15” (38.1cm) height and 7” (17.78cm) depth, with a handy top handle should you need some hand grip. The PS1 XL Backpack is slightly wider but shorter and will be ideal for bigger build guys. Measures  16” (40.64cm) length, 13.5” (34.29cm) height, 7” (17.78cm) depth.

Look out for full leather and suede versions (€1,535) or beautiful jacquard patterned (€1,460 - €1,825) variants. The XL backpack comes in a lightweight nylon and leather combination which is (€1,250). Love these!

Fendi Fall Winter 2014 Mens Backpack

Below: Backpacks are no longer reserved for school... Adult designs from many luxury brands are putting them under the fashion spotlight. This one from Fendi's Fall Winter 2014 mens collection gets all the right ticks... modern angular flap cover, interesting zipper details on the sides and masculine styling means it's a must have for the season! Especially cool when decorated with those cute bag bugs charm... Loving this nylon crocodile printed version:-)

Fendi Fall Winter 2014 Mens Backpack: Selleria Leather and Crocodile Printed Nylon

Fendi is currently my favourite bag brand, being on a roll generating great interest thru their bag bugs and Mens Peekaboo Tote. Everyone wants a piece of those decorative furry critters or the handsome uniquely designed bag. But beyond all the hype about these popular items, I am also loving some of the incredible men bag designs that came down their Fall Winter 2014 mens runway.

One such bag is the backpack with an angular edge flap cover, adorn with interesting zipper details on both sides. This is one modern backpack that puts luxury and functionality seamlessly together. The modernity of the piece also serves as a great ‘canvas’ to hang those lovely bag bugs charm and add a little humour to the very adult design. There is definitely no dispute being ‘high school kids’ when you are carrying this gorgeous backpack.

For timeless style, the Selleria leather version (Approx SGD2785 at Matches Fashion) are to die for. Or opt for the nylon crocodile print version for that added visual zest. I love the latter for the lighter weight as compared to the leather counterpart.

I want one! Backpack simply makes commuting so much easier:-) Will be perfect for my year end getaway after Christmas.

Launching 6 November worldwide: Alexander Wang x H&M Mens Bags and Shoes

If you are a H&M designer collaboration fan, a sports enthusiast, a worshiper of all things black...then the upcoming Alexander Wang x H&M Collection will tickle your fancy.

Sportive influences abound in the entire collection, offering fans a slice of Alexander Wang’s urban attitude style at attainable prices. Although I am not entirely sold on the looks... but I am sure a lot of urbanites will be making a beeline for the collection once it launches worldwide and online on 6 November.

So let’s take a closer look at what’s on offer at the accessories front...namely the bags and shoes. Expect gym ready duffle bags, backpacks to spice up your fitness sessions. An all black ensemble of sleek metal hardware, oversized branded zipper pulls and scuba/rubber materials are signatures of the collection. Water repellent is key consideration as well, so you can be sure these backpacks will come in handy during year end’s rainy wet weather. The footwear comes with Scuba diving inspired styling, made with rubber, leather and scuba materials.

Here’s a round up of new bracelet designs from Hermès... which are the most desirable and easy to buy presents to win any hearts over.

First up, check out the new Imprévisible (USD850) and Illusion bracelets (USD860). Duality seems to be the key design decision these days for luxury brands. Making your customer’s money go that extra mile sells your merchandise easier. So these new bracelets which feature hardware accents of those infamous Collier De Chien bracelets have a clever design that allows for reversible colours on the leather strap. Timeless combinations such as Fawn Tadelakt /Black Chamonix calfskin or White epsom/Fawn Tadelakt are some great options you can expect. The Imprévisible is recognisable with the medor pyramid studs whilie the Illusion bracelets dangles with charm with the signature ring design from our favourite CDCs.

For a more understated and ‘masculine’ option, the Izy bracelet (USD540) is my recommendation. With a strap slot-in fastening the likes of your Steve messenger bags, these leather cuffs emit a quiet luxury that matches up nicely over any formal wear. The version in Indigo just screams ‘please buy me’.

And classic Louis Vuitton designs are a keeper that will stand the test of fashion’s fickle time. I love it. Always appreciate the light weight but hard wearing monogram canvas, now in such a handsome design... all hail to logomania:-)

Fendi Fall Winter 2014 Bag Bugs 'Monster Eyes' Backpack

I have been officially ‘Fendi Bag Bugs’ smitten! These ultra cute furry fashion critters are all the rage in fashion right now. Girls love it. Boys go gaga over it. Fendi has created a hot money making concept that puts them in the forefront of being the IT accessories to covet this season.

Guys have loved the bag bugs ‘Monster eyes’ version of the Mens Peekaboo...  and I have loved the Bag bugs charm that looked charmingly cute with the bag... Today I am obsessed with the backpack versions of those ‘piercing eyes’ range of accessories. Stealing the spotlight on Fendi’s men SS2015 runway... the monster eyes backpack is as cute and statement making as their Peekaboo cousin. And good news, they are starting to stock up this Fall. Colette in Paris has sold out on these:-(

Surprisingly the pricing for these backpacks are way more accessible than the mens Peekaboo (If you opt for these canvas and leather trim versions). Retailing for Euro 817 for the canvas/leather trim version or Euro 1417 for the leather and fur version... definitely a step down from Peekaboo’s higher price tag. This makes for another great option to buy into the bag bugs frenzy, aside from the bag charms.

This Fall 2014 Montblanc pays tribute to the author of one of world literature’s great epic novels and the father of realistic fiction, Daniel Defoe. Not able to recall who this great writer is? How about refreshing your memory with the famous adventure story published in 1719, titled Robinson Crusoe? Now I am sure everyone will have heard about the story, one that vividly captures the ordeals about a castaway who finds himself stranded on a tropical island to face cannibals and mutineers.

Every detail of the writing instrument recalls the story of this brave character lost at sea, as masterfully narrated by Defoe in his novel. The shape of the writing instrument is inspired by the wooden paddle that Crusoe relied on in vain to escape from the island on many occasions. Precious resin was used on the cap and barrel to achieve an effect that captures the complex texture and colour of wood, a material that symbolizes Crusoe’s life as a survivor on the remote island, reduced to the simplest of things. Enhancing the appearance of the resin’s polished surface, the cap ring and cone are adorned with fine engravings typical of the 18th century ornaments that decorated leather-bound book covers of the time, including the first-ever edition of the novel.

Attention to details is impeccable in these Montblanc Writers Edtion: Daniel Dafoe writing instruments, even right down to the elaborately decorated feather shape clip, reminiscent of Crusoe’s most loyal companion on the island, the parrot Pol. This collection of Fountain Pens, Rollerball and Ballpoint Pens truly immortalises the author’s unmistakable imprint on world literature into a collector’s piece that exemplifies his prolific writing talent.

I am all for making my ‘style investments’ go that extra mile. Hence, any fashion item that has duality functions get my vote anyday. So today I am happy to report my latest shopping find that embodies this quality. Check out Gucci’s Fall Winter 2014 Ramble Reversible Tote which gets you twice the style power in 2 contrasting colours/materials for 2 bags with one price! I love the fact that Gucci uses very different hues to make the reversible function more distinctive and you truly feel you are getting a new style each time you flip the bag around.

Reversible fun not withstanding... the timeless and elegant design will ensure the bag stays relevant season after season. Armed with a shoulder strap as well, you can also have 2 ways of carrying... tote on hand or sling with shoulder. How perfect is that?

Since I sense an impending return to logomania... the Gucci Ramble tote in Nut Brown reversible to the GG monogram canvas (USD1750) gets my vote! I love the iconic monogram against the tan brown tone ... which makes it nostalgia chic amidst interchangeable styles. The light blue and tan version (Approx SGD3800 or USD2650) looks incredible as well... a warm and cool colour to suit any mood on any occassion. Made for women but the gender neutral design makes this a good contender for guys as well.

The highly anticipated Alexander Wang x H&M collection is not too far in sight. Launching 6 November, teaser imagery of the collection pieces have started to trickle onto the cybersphere to satisfy many fans’ curiosity.

So here’s to further quench that appetite to know what the collection will bring. This time, in the form of the advertising imagery.

A very sporty aesthetic in line with Alexander Wang’s designs... it is befitting that actual sportsmen, such as English soccer player Andy Carroll and kickboxer Rivaldino dos Santos are the faces in the new Alexander Wang X H&M advertising campaign. For the ladies, four supermodels: Joan Smalls, Raquel Zimmermann, Isabeli Fontana and Natasha Poly fronts the campaign.

Great minds think alike? Imitation is the greatest form of flattery? Inspired?  When we see a new design that looks similar to a precedent design... these descriptions will probably come to mind.

So I shall leave you guys to arrive at the appropriate response when you see this latest Fall Winter 2014 Voyage 12H bag from Swiss luxury brand, Bally.

If you have been eyeing an Hermès Victoria 43 for the longest time but not able to fork out the exorbitant price that comes with it... then perhaps this new Bally Voyage 12H bag will fill that void in your bag closet. Featuring a wide rectangular silhouette, minimal details and longer leather handles that ends with an angular shape design... this bag definitely brings to mind the iconic Hermès Victoria 43. But I shall reserve my comments here, you can make your own conclusion. At a price of USD2200 and measuring 43cm x 28cm x 18cm ... perhaps this is the next best thing without Hermès Victoria 43's bank hemorrhaging effect.

New creative director, Jonathan Anderson sure knows how to stir up some design shake up at Loewe following his stewardship. Not only has the anagram, brand identity and packaging been revamped... even the iconic Amazona bag have been reborn in new proportions.

For the boys, we are all too familiar with the Loewe 24H Amazona Bag. They were some of the most gorgeous man bags in terms of proportion and design. Now Jonathan Anderson has introduced a new silhouette to this favourite classic. Being taller and more squarish, a proportion based on the 1975 trapezoidal silhouette of the original Amazona... these new Amazona 75 Extra Large Bag shows great promise to win over male fans!

With key characteristics of a light unstructured body, in suede or an embossed Anagram exterior encased with calf leather corner patches, they look sportier and more casual than their predecessor. A good bag to throw around in office or weekends... versatile and easy to mix and match. Love the all black anagram version... finally a repeated logo pattern that does not look offensively tacky.
