Great Minds Think Alike #31

Below: Glitter shoes... Jimmy Choo or Christian Louboutin?

Glitter Shoes: Jimmy Choo or Christian Louboutin?

Jimmy Choo
has just launched their new Fall Winter 2011 mens shoe collection. I must admit, I am not very thrilled with what I saw. It seems the shoemaker of choice for women worldwide has come a little too close for comfort to our favourite red soles for this season's offering.

One good example... check out this Black Glitter Slip-ons by Jimmy Choo... dejavu again? Besides the similar type of material for the shoe, do you also feel a strong akin in the shape of the shoe, to a certain Christian Louboutin's Rollerball Spikes in Silver Glitter? (Take away the spikes and they are like 'evil twins' born to different parents.)

You decide... great minds think alike or inspired?

However, I must admit, the black glitter does present a glamourous option for handsome tuxedos! Love the ensemble:-)

Jimmy Choo Black Glitter Slip-ons retails for ¥71,400(inc. tax), approx. SGD1081. Christian Louboutin Rollerball Spikes in Silver Glitter is priced at USD1295 (SGD1900).

Below: Dog wars for Fall Winter 2011... will Givenchy's Rottweiler or Balenciaga's Alsatian emerged as the winner? Who will you vote for?
Dog Wars: Givenchy's Rottweiler vs. Balenciaga's Alsatian

Man's best friend have moved into the spotlight for the latest craze in fashion this Fall Winter 2011. Givenchy was the perpetrator for putting our beloved dog pals as new superstars of the runway. Now we see Balenciaga doing similar. Just check out these 2 wool jumpers from the 2 brands:-P

Is this a case of great minds think alike? Or fashion conspiracy?

It's dog war time. Who will emerge the winner? Is it the growling Rottweiler from Givenchy or the handsome Alsatian from Balenciaga... Time to take sides! Share your vote by leaving a comment here:-)

(Givenchy Rottweiler jumper costs HK$3590, Balenciaga Alsatian Jumper is priced at £438)

Below: Fendi's Spring Summer 2011 Linda Bag: Feeling you have seen this bag somewhere before? 'Mulberry Bayswater'
dejavu?

Below: Such close resemblance with the iconic Mulberry Bayswater... the turnlock, the 2 strap running down the body and the shape... Great minds think alike?

Fendi Linda Bag vs. Mulberry Bayswater

Am I seeing double? Check out what Fendi has got to offer this Spring Summer 2011 season?

Don't you feel a dejavu with this Fendi Linda Bag? Mulberry Bayswater much!!??

Is this another case of great minds think alike? Or blatant copying? Fendi could have change the details and shape a bit more to widen the resemblance gap...

Below: Dior Homme vs. Céline? Great minds think alike? Dior Homme Fall Winter 2011 menswear... check out the bi-material tote bag...

Below: Does it resemble Céline's Spring 2011 Bi-material Cabas in leather and linen? From the bi-colour and material to the design...

Below: I still prefer Céline's version. Something about the proportion and the feel makes it more chic! The raw line and soft lamb skin is also an interesting mix of textures and materials. An all seasons bag for all occassions, luxe or casual:-) I am so in love with this!

Below: Kwannam from We Could Grow Up Together just got one! I love it!

Dior Homme Fall Winter 2011 vs. Céline Spring 2011

Battle of the bi-coloured tote bags... Céline's Leather Cabas has garnered a following of some of the most stylish women and men. Their bi-coloured/material version are some of the best undertstated luxe designs. When you know something is done right, others may seemingly follow. I spotted a 'close cousin' of this Céline's Spring 2011 Bi-material Cabas in Leather and Raw Linen (Kwannam from We Could Grow Up Together just got one! I am jealous cos' it's so fabulous!). This 'relative' is from Dior Homme.... straight off the runway of their Fall Winter 2011 collection. Grey and black, black handles, bi-material.... similarities abound.

Below: Fendi's lookalike enamel bracelets with F initials... similar idea to Hermès Clic Clac H Bracelets... yay or nay?

Fendi Bi-coloured Enamel Bracelets vs. Hermès Clic Clac H Bracelets

If anyone is willing to pay €399 for an Hermès Clic Clac H Enamel Bracelet, then why would him/her then turn their shopping radar away from Fendi's Bi-coloured versions when it is only €162.92 (less than half the price and twice the colour! Available at www.luisaviaroma.com).

Perhaps this is what the house of Fendi is thinking when they launch this series of bracelets. The great resemblance of their bracelets to Hermès Clic Clac H is very evident. Logo initials, enamel coloured coating, hinge closure...

However, do producing lower priced similar designs truly work that way into a consumer's shopping mindset?

What will Hermès think about these? Is copying truly flattering? Will you buy into these 'cheaper' versions bearing not the 'H' but 'F'?

Food for thought.

Below: Battle of the tassel belts... Gucci vs. Paul and Joe...

Curtain Call: Battle Of The Tassel Belts!

It's Gucci vs. Paul and Joe! Who does 'curtain chic' better for Spring Summer 2011? Amazing similarity between those metallic 'exotic' skin tassel belts and the way it's styled! Gucci will most likely be real python skin while Paul and Joe's might be embossed animal leather. Another bizarre case of great minds think alike? Our world must be getting smaller for such 'coincidence'...

Bally Fall Winter 2010 vs. Mulberry Fall Winter 2008

Are you seeing what I see? Is that a dejavu from Fall Winter 2008 season where Mulberry launched their Shimmy Tote? Seems like Bally is 4 seasons too late to come up with a shockingly similar design. Tsk, tsk, tsk...

Below: The 'NEW' Collier De Chien?:-P

Below: The highly coveted real deal from Hermès...

The 'NEW' Collier De Chien: Givenchy style?!?!

Does this leather cuff from Givenchy's pre-fall 2010 collection send familiar chills down your spine? If your answer is yes and it looked hauntingly familiar from the house of Hermès...their infamous Collier De Chien, then you share my sentiments. Those huge square studs and broad leather band design definitely show signs of great minds thinking alike. Like a contemporary revamped version of the classic CDC. Love it? Or the real things still wins? Of course, CDC wins... but I do not mind Givenchy either. Gimme both anyday!:-P

Below: Balmain's infamous 80's inspired emerald mini dress as worn by Natasha Poly on the runway..

Burberry vs. Balmain Mini Dress

It's not the hemlines of Kate Hudson's gorgeous emerald Burberry mini dress (that she wore to yesterday's Burberry Fall Winter 2010 Women's show in London) that catches my attention. Nor its' red carpet worthy glittery material or how gorgeous it looked on Kate.

It is the immediate recollection back to a Spring Summer 2009 Balmain mini dress in a similar emerald shade with all its bling and sparkle. Great minds sometimes do think alike, most likely unconsciously. Nonetheless, one's more demure, the other's more unabashedly 'trashy' but gorgeous.

What do you guys think?

Narciso Rodriguez Fall Winter 2010 vs. Balenciaga Spring Summer 2010

Narciso Rodriguez presented his Fall Winter 2010 days ago during New York Fashion Week. One of the looks presented gave me dejavu... Balenciaga's Spring Summer 2010 spots a similar look with the same colour ways and design of the dress. The draping around the neck, sleeveless, length of the skirt, cut-outs around the body... right up to the hair style of the model on the runway. What do you guys think?

Balmain, Céline And Givenchy Inspired Zara Pieces

Zara
has done it again, besides getting inspired by Balmain this season (Since street creds are the easiest to copy), Zara did their own take on even Céline and Givenchy. From a tie front dress by Céline to a stripe jacket from Givenchy, to those military embellished shirts and t-shirts from Balmain, one thing's for sure, u have a choice to splurge or thrift to get the look.

Zara... ladies, either you hate them or you love them:-)

looking similar to...

Below: my 27 Friday blazer from Bangkok?

Below: Circular tone on tone patchwork details as well for my blazer:-P

Neil Barrett vs. 27 Friday

Am I being too picky? I am having a dejavu looking at those Fall Winter 2010 jackets from Neil Barrett's Fall Winter 2010 Men's Collection. It does bear some resemblance to my 27 Friday Blazer from Bangkok, in the details of circular tone on tone fabric badges against the neutral jackets. The 27 Friday blazer which I got from Bangkok are sewn in fabric patches while Neil Barrett's are pins are more refined. What do you say? Similar?

I do love the Neil Barrett Fall Winter 2010 Mens Collection, I see myself wearing quite a few pieces:-P And a small collection of womenswear are featured as well with some hot must-have shoes!

Below: Japanese label, Ato's Spring Summer 2010 collection... I thought I have seen those jeans somewhere...:-P

Below: You do the comparison between ATO and these Balmain biker jeans... what do you think? Inspired or copy? Shame on the copycat...

Biker Jeans: Ato vs. Balmain

Japanese designer Ato Matsumo's Spring Summer 2010 collections sees an uncanny resemblance in the jeans and biker pants presented. Balmain anyone? Just look at the ribbed panel details on the thighs... Isn't it a bit too late to do an 'inspired version' after Balmain's signature jeans design took the fashion world by storm this fall winter 2009? (None in good sizes lasted till the seasonal sales everywhere!) Tsk tsk tsk...
