My MANy Bags Trendspotting #207

Below: Here's my round up of my favourite mens streetstyle... What are the 'fashion boys' wearing lately? Here's my insight and favourite looks:-P

MyMANybags Streetstyle Round-Up Of The Moment

This blog post is dedicated to all my streetstyle idols and those incredible streetstyle photographers... it's my round up of my favourite streetstyle looks for the moment...

After scouring thru many inspiring looks worn by real fashion-forward guys from all over the world... I thought I should gather some of my favourites and share it on my blog.

What are the key trend pieces that catches attention? What are the colours to watch out for? Which brand are favoured by the fashion squad lately? And who is my new streetstyle idol? Here’s my rundown.

KEY TRENDS:

Wearable and already well liked by many guys... the sports trainers is a staple footwear that you usually wear it on the running tracks or the gym. However, lately, there is an insurgence of these sporting footwear getting out of their ‘natural’ context and being put on the forefront of fashion. Balenciaga, Kenzo are amongst the many designers who conveyed this message in their recent menswear collections. But Valentino puts the luxury factor into these street-cred shoes with their leather camoufage versions. Many guys are already spotting the new Valentino Camouflage Trainers during the recent fashion weeks in major fashion cities, that goes to show their popularity. Even conventional sports trainer brands such as New Balance and Nike have been readily adopted against high fashion looks. Nuff’ said... get yourself a pair or be square.

KEY COLOURS:

With footwear out of the way, also pay attention of the invasion of prints and neon colours this coming Spring Summer 2013. Little touches of neon accents brighten your look, but do them sparingly. Metallics are also major influences on many collections with Burberry Prorsum and Lanvin taking the lead. Use these outstanding colours with discretion and you get to be at the front line of SS2013’s fashion race.

KEY MENSWEAR ITEM:

Sweatshirts propagated by the likes of Kenzo and Carven infiltrated the closets of many male fashion fans. Whether are they checks  from JW. Anderson’s or Kenzo’s, Floral embroidered like Carven's or Religious or military themed like Givenchy's... bold and graphic are the key words.

Below: Statement making Sweatshirts... metallics and neon colours are all part of the exciting SS2013 menswear trends seen on the streets:-P

KEY BRAND TO OWN:

Of course, it’s Kenzo! With affordable price points and upbeat prints and colours... the revamped fashion brand is getting new lease of life amongst the fashion community. Just look at their Tiger Print Sweaters and t-shirts... they are sold out as fast as you can say ‘UNCLE’!

Below: Kenzo is my choice for the brand to own now... for their very upbeat collection and designs. Most importantly, the accessible price points makes everyone have the ability to enjoy the creations of this revamped French fashion brand... And Anders Thomson is my new style idol... his sporting looks such as the one below with Kenzo's Tiger Print Sweatshirt is achievable and yet looks amazing on real guys!

MY NEW STREETSTYLE IDOL:

I was contemplating Andrea Porro, after seeing his many ‘chameleon’ looks at the recent mens fashion week. His Louis Vuitton Karakoram scarf look was well liked by many. But in the end, I picked Anders Sølvsten Thomsen, fashion stylist, consultant and fashion editor of LOVE magazine for his more relatable styles. I think many guys can pull off his looks which range from Prada to Jil Sander.  Lately, his sporty looks which includes key trend pieces of the season, the likes of Kenzo's Tiger Print sweatshirt and Valentino's Camouflage Trainers are true inspirations. Of course, his good looks helped in the decision making:-)

My MANy Bags Trendspotting #206

Below: Milan Fashion Week's snowy weather did not dampen the spirit of the 'fashion squad'... especially Simone Marchetti who wore a match red cardigan and scarf with amazing Prada FW2012 Levitate Shoes! I love those shoes:-)
Simone Marchetti Wore Prada Levitate Shoes During Milan Fashion Week Fall Winter 2013

WIt's a snowy fashion season... Milan got its fair share of winter weather during the recent Milan Fashion Week FW2013. However, it seems all the frosty weather is not dampening the fashion squad's spirit to dress to impress. Not when it comes to fashion chameleons like Simone Marchetti:-)

Clad in a deep red cardigan and matching scarf... the menswear buyer also got out those drool worthy Prada Levitate Shoes from FW2012. Most appropriate for the SS2013 season's sporting themes that influenced collections from Prada to Louis Vuitton to Dries Van Noten.

Below: This metallic pair is right on cue for SS2013's metallic and sporting trends... love!

I want the metallic pair! Right on cue again for the metallic trend for this summer too;-) Miuccia Prada has amazingly keen foresight for what's in, way before others:-)

My MANy Bags Trendspotting #200

Below: Louis Vuitton's FW2012 Karakoram Blanket Scarf is one of the most outstanding mens accessory for this season. It's no wonder they are spotted on some of the most fashion forward guys during the now on-going Milan Men's Fashion Week FW2013... I want one!
Below: Andrea Porro, one of the most innovative dressers for mens streetstyle demonstrates how cosy these amazing scarves can be... now which colour is better looking? :-P
Louis Vuitton Fall Winter 2012 Mens Karakoram Blanket Scarf

This is probably one of the most featured and prominent accessories for the boys this Fall Winter 2012. The Louis Vuitton Karakoram blanket scarf featuring a vintage 1920's Karakoram graphic pattern could be the most cosy and warm accessory to wear when the mercury drops. I am aware in Singapore, our tropical climate makes you looked loony if you wore one. But in prime winter temperatures, they serve more than just function and ensures you make a style statement as well. I love the masculine pattern most of all.

Being the must have accessory for the season, it is no surprise they turn up on the necks of fashion forward guys during the recent Milan FW2013 Mens Fashion Week. Andrea Porro and his friend demonstrated how desirable these blanket scarves can be in both grey and brown. I want one... not for wearing but for using as a throw blanket on my couch while watching TV. Now that’s another function to add to these amazingly cashmere and wool material scarves. Good job, Mr Kim Jones!

The Material Boy #556

Below: A handsome work bag indeed, functional and aesthetically appealing... Check out the Coach Bleecker Leather Commuter...
Below: Besides the fawn (tan brown) colour, the Bleecker Leather Commuter comes in my favourite colour, olive green! Also check out the Crosby Leather Commuter which is crafted in premium Pebbled Leather from Italy... I own one and loving it!:-P

Coach Bleecker Leather Commuter

Finding the balance between functional and aesthetically appealing work bags can be a challenge. Often than not, work bags for men are either too conservative or too impractical. Well, that is until they know where to look...

Coach makes excellent urban men's bags (sans the monogram ones) for both work and play. Executive styles are their forte, with an array of work styles to match the well dressed office executives. My pick for a handsome work companion has to be the Bleecker Leather Commuter. Crafted in hand-burnished, premium glove tanned leather, it spots a classic flavour while excelling in its duties for form and function. Generous compartments, a non cumbersome size will keep you organised without hindering your commuting to work. I love the shoulder strap that allows for hands free movement. Laptops, documents or newspapers and books will always be by your side anytime of the day!

The bag gets even more desirable with fresh colours for work bags, in the form of unusual military green and fawn (tan brown). Gentlemen style need not be sacrificed for conformity to dark browns and blacks anymore. (Also check out the Coach Crosby Leather Commuter with slight variation in details and using premium pebbled leather from Italy. I own one! Loving the version in slate grey colour:-P)

Retails for USD 568 or approx. SGD1090.

The Material Boy #555

Below: Hermès 'C'est la fête scarf' print featuring a darker theme is one of the most eye catching scarves for FW2012 season... I love the skeleton rider which is a darker take on the brand's equestrian heritage...

Below: Comes in 5 different colours, but my heart is set for the blue and prune colour or this anthracite version...

Hermès Fall Winter 2012 Mens 70cm 'C'est la fête' Scarf

Hermès scarf prints have always been cheery and colourful. But this Fall Winter 2012 season, I was surprised and fascinated by the introduction of a design that features a darker, more macabre theme.

The C'est la fête print has since become a hot topic of discussion this season, sending many Hermès fans to either covet or dislike this design. Some love it for the bold and dark rendition of Hermès equestrian heritage, while others compare it to Alexander McQueen's signature skull motifs... but for me and many others, we just love a twist for the brand, making this print highly collectible. The design was also featured prominently on Hermès FW2012 menswear runway on an eye catching cardigan!

The C'est la fête scarf comes in 5 different colours (ranging from dark blue to anthracite to prune and brown tones) and 2 dip dye variants. But my heart is set on either the anthracite et gris fonce colour or the bleu nuit et gris et prune version. Must have!

My MANy Bags Trendspotting #199

Below: Camel coloured coats have always been favoured by guys in winter... a good neutral colour that goes well with navys, greys and blacks, brightening up these sombre winter hues. Camel colour also matches well to patterns. Camouflage prints? Perfect!
Below: Camel coloured coats as worn by Flippo of The Three F...
Below: Simon Marchetti demonstrates how camel coloured coats can go with floral prints:-P

Camel Coloured Coats For Winter: Is It Time To Invest In One?

Okay, camel coloured coats are not exactly a trend, seeing how they have always been around in menswear. The neutral tone colour works as a good base to compliment many different hues, especially grays and blacks while not appearing dull. I love Camel colour against pattens. Camouflage pattern seem to work seamlessly with the colour. Even florals with spots of red are not a problem for this versatile colour... as demonstrated by Simon Marchetti. In long wool overcoat designs, they can be worn over suits for a wallstreet power executive look. Stay sharp while keeping toasty warm at the same time.

So is it time to invest in this timeless piece? Especially when the newly launched Maison Martin Margiela with H&M's overcoat with inverted lapels is both aesthetically pleasing while being conceptually unique. Decisions, decisions, decisions... What say you?

My Shopping Conquest #131 + My Shoe Collection #58 + My Bag Collection #69

Below: My Maison Martin Margiela with H&M shopping hauls...I chanced upon this supposedly sold out 'Jacket with Fused  details' today. Loving the Trompe L'oeil lapels, buttons and pockets!

Below: Tried the jacket with Prada's crazy guns printed shirt... love the combination:-P
The Story of My Maison Martin Margiela with H&M Shopping Hauls. Prada 'Cameo' Included

I never expected I would be shopping more than I should for Maison Martin Margiela with H&M collection that was launched just this Thurs. Looking at lookbook pictures is one thing, but observing the incredible detailing, finishing and material up close and personal takes my admiration to a whole new level. Of course, that is not to say this collaboration collection can surpass the actual Margiela brand... but at such good price points offered by H&M with these standards, this collection is a real keeper. By far, the best for H&M's designer collaborations.

I had commited to myself to only buy the 'Fusion of 2 shirts' as the trophy piece to invest for the Margiela with H&M collection. I wanted to rein myself in but things often have a way of going beyond expectations. So one thing leads to another and the fashion gods have their plans to decreed how my bank account will be depleted.

I got an XS size for the 'Fusion of 2 shirts' on Thurs but found the size way smaller than what my usual H&M XS sizes were. I was suffocating in the shirt and had no choice but to return the item for a refund today. As today is the deadline for returns for all purchases made on the launch day (H&M has a 3 day refund policy), if lady luck permits, some coveted pieces may find their way back to the racks. That is exactly what I had hoped for, in order to replace this 'loss'. I love the shirt and hence a replacement is paramount to ease the disappointment. Call that a 'shopaholic withdrawal syndrome':-P

Miraculously, the fashion gods must have took pity on my 'ailment' and granted me the chance to fill that 'micro size' void in my closet. I chanced upon another prized piece of the Maison Martin Margiela with H&M collection befitting the replacement for my returned shirt:-P Yes, I found the 'Jacket with fused details' which I regretted not buying on launch day!

Bagaholicboy had been clamouring to me about the interesting trompe l'oeil details on the lapels, pockets and even buttons. I was not convinced then, but when I saw the real piece, it spelled Kevin right away. Furthermore, how fortunate can you get when a sold out piece miraculously appear in your size without you actively looking. The only question left: To buy or not to buy? A split second hesitation later,  I 'subcumbed' to fate. Made my way to the cashier and ended with more things than I was supposed to from the collection. Throw in another pair of shoes and my shopping day was declared a resounding success:-P  I left the store with a victorious grin.

Below: I ended up with more Maison Martin Margiela with H&M pieces than I should have...

As ecstatic as I was,  I even went to Prada to try out the FW2012 guns print shirt (Justin O'Shea, buying director of mytheresa.com wore the shirt and got me inspired) with my new Margiela with H&M 'Jacket with Fused Details'. Happy Margiela indeed I am. Prada shirt is next on my wishlist:-) What a fruitful day of shopping adventures...

The Material Boy #548

Below: Vlieger and Vandam's Guardian Angel collection of bags features some amazing leather clutches with dangerous designs... anyone dare to carry this pistol embossed clutch bag to the bank?:-P
Below: The clutches from Vlieger and Vandam's Guardian Angels collection are my favourites. They even feature hand cuffs, knife beside the pistol design... fashion becomes dangerous!

Vlieger And Vandam 'Guardian Angel' Clutch Bags

I am not one who will propagate violence. However, these Vlieger and Vandam 'Guardian Angel' clutch bags immediately made me look twice when I first lay eyes on them. Bordering on triggering any security alarm or becoming a statement making expression of style... I think they achieved both.

Why would I say that? In 2002, Dutch design couple Carolien Vlieger and Hein van Dam created the ultimate accessory line of bags, clutches and tech accessories named 'Guardian Angel' where danger becomes chic. Featuring a pistol, knife and handcuff in 3 dimensional leather embossing, the collection was an instant hit which also created lots of controversy. Imagine carrying one of these bags to board a plane, or simply walk on the streets, they could create some serious 'panic':-P

So 'dangerously' engaging are the couple's creations that MoMA (Museum of Modern Art in New York) had to include their work in the ‘Safe Design Takes On Risk’ exhibition. Subsequently Vlieger & Vandam bags are being exhibited worldwide and are part of the permanent collections in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Design Museum in Helsinki and the Museum of Bags and Purses in Amsterdam (which is actually just around the corner from their studio).

The tags that came with the bag also has an advisory for new owners not to bring the bag aboard a flight or go to the bank. Fashion accessories takes on a new meaning. One that either you love or hate.

For me, I love the boldness of the concept. It may trigger debate over the propagation of violence, but if you take it at a pure fashion value, these bags are a real eye turner. I am all for the clutches as shown above!

Accept it or frown upon it... take your stand. The clutch bags retails for Euro 182 at Luisaviaroma.com and the full collection can be purchased at Vlieger & Vandam's website.

If you missed out or want more of Coach's collaboration collection with London-born and now Brooklyn-based artist Hugo Guinness, fret not! As promised, classic Margiela pieces are now offered at H&M's accessible price points, while not sacrificing the DNA of the Margiela brand.

Below: Rottweiler fever continues at Givenchy, with a highly sought after clutch bag that is sold out everywhere! Gorgeous clutch bag that works for the guys:-P
Givenchy Fall Winter 2012 Rottweiler PVC Clutch

Woof! Woof! Growl! Growl! Givenchy's Rottweiler fever has yet to subside and the brand is cleverly milking another round of K9 frenzy for this Fall Winter 2012.

Sold out everywhere, this Givenchy Fall Winter 2012 Rottweiler Print Clutch bag is just such a money maker. Almost impossible to track down at the stores and online, so count yourself lucky if you have snagged yourself one. At a price point of approx. Euro220,  this all PVC clutch bag is surprisingly affordable for the style boost it will give you.

I had a chance to pre-order one a week back at 'luxury retail utopia', Luisaviaroma... but did not feel the urgency then. Today I checked the site, it's sold out. Major regret.

Below: The clutch bag is a perfect accessory for the edgy women...

My Shopping Conquest #130

Below: Ready for camouflage? I am... spotting my new ASOS camouflage sleeve shirt today!:-P
ASOS Fall Winter 2012 Camouflage Sleeve Shirt

If you have been following mens fashion trends for the past months, you would have noticed the camouflage print have made a comeback. Never going out of favour for designers, it's just a matter of time this masculine pattern gets recurred as inspirations for the greatest fashion minds.

Dries Van Noten, Jimmy Choo and Valentino were the major players embracing the camouflage pattern for Spring Summer 2013, while Phillip Lim digitised it for the modern dandy in his Fall Winter 2012 collection. Detailings spotting these military patterns also appeared everywhere to invade into every men's wardrobe.

Hence, when I first saw this ASOS camouflage sleeve shirt... it was love at first sight. The shirt may be slightly overwhelming to wear with sleeves unrolled... but it looked fantastic with sleeves rolled up to reveal just the right amount of camouflage. I did my camouflage rounds today with the shirt, spotting a Zara Khaki chinos, Lanvin shoes and the ever versatile Balenciaga Mens Large Clip clutch!

Below: New Christian Louboutin Fall Winter 2012 mens shoes to tempt you this season! All red Rollerboy spikes gets my top vote:-P
Below: Tartan checks are back once again too:-P
More Christian Louboutin Fall Winter 2012 Mens Shoes To Tempt!

Christian Louboutin continues to push the expectations of his ever growing mens footwear business, sending out more desirable designs to satisfy the adventurous taste of his male fans. For this winter, I blogged my press preview visit earlier, showcasing many new mens shoe designs. But little do I expect I am getting more surprises with new shoe styles from his already coveted Fall Winter 2012 collection.

Ready to set your heart fluttering to an all red Rollerboy Spikes in patent leather with matching red studs? Yes, it's a reality and my heart skipped a beat at the sight of this new shoe! An absolute scene stealer, just in time for the many incoming year end party opportunities.

Staying on the topic of grand occassions to flaunt your style, I am also tempted by the Spooky Mens Loafers in Peacock (Emerald Green) Velvet with an amazing all-black studded toe cap. Formal never looked this cool! However, if you want a more modern version of glamour, the cleans line, patent black leather and gorgeous rear chain detail of the Stage Flat Black will bound to get you palpating:-P

Plaid pattern designs are also making a comeback, with a Louis Tartan Spikes Flat and Rollerboy Spikes Anthracite Tartan to add some Scottish flair to your winter styles.

Below: Coach has tapped onto the keen lens of The Sartorialist to capture stylish New Yorkers carrying their latest FW2012 Coach Legacy Collection bags. This image of an immaculately dressed guy carrying the Coach Legacy Leather Tote sold me the bag:-)

Coach Fall Winter 2012 Legacy Leather Tote

A picture says a thousand words. A good picture by The Sartorialist conveys a story, a background beyond the fashionable persona on the surface. That's perhaps the reason why Coach has tapped onto the keen eyes of Scott Schuman to capture some of his favourite New Yorkers carrying the bags from their new Legacy Collection.

One of the pictures depicting this smartly dress young guy dashing out of the subway exit, exemplifies the New York city spirit. And that Coach Legacy Leather Tote is the ideal companion for any city endeavours. I love the modernity mixed with a heritage design for the tote bag. Beautifully crafted in leather with a slight vintage effect, this Coach Legacy Leather Tote also has a handy exterior pocket with well proportioned handles to hand carry or shoulder sling. Truly befitting any urban dwelling dandys. Goes great with a blazer, shirt and a pair of jeans as styled in the picture. LOVE! I want the bag:-)

The Coach Legacy Leather Tote retails for SGD1395 in Singapore.

In 2001, Agnès B created one of the most user friendly bags which instantly became a best seller. Named affectionately as 'My Bag!', this practical and lightweight nylon duffel bag carries almost anything and lasts and lasts. I have one myself and I can attest to the practicality when I used it everyday or most ideally for travelling. I love the huge front zip pockets that makes retrieving wallets, passports or handy items a breeze.

For Fall Winter 2012, Agnès B is taking 'My Bag!' to a new level of collectability. Collaborating with 10 artists around the world, each artist injects his own unique art style to create their own creative interpretations to the bags. From artworks to illustrations to prints, the artists play around their own style to truly create one of a kind pieces that will appeal to bag fans.

My top picks are the very cool creations of David ShillingLaw from UK, Graphic Airlines from Hong Kong and our very Kuanth from Singapore! Good to see local talent represented on a global stage.

Each of the 10 limited edition bags will have a production quantity of 150 globally, with 5 pieces of each artist's creation exhibited and retailed at 3 Agnès B stores in Singapore (Namely Raffles City Shopping Centre - Tel: 6334 4910, Paragon Orchard - Tel: 6737 6276 and The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands - Tel: 6688 7014). Priced at SGD495, net proceeds from the sale will benefit charities in each of the artists countries. In Singapore, Agnès B will support the Arc Children’s Centre which is dedicated to nurturing and enriching the lives of children with cancer or other life-threatening illnesses, in a joyful and healthy environment.

Get your Agnès B limited edition 'My bag!' and shop for a good cause at the same time. The collection will be available from 18th October 2012 to 18th April 2013. I know which one I want already, how about you?:-P
